Lead Well: 10 Steps to Successful and Sustainable Leadership

This book was great. I'm a little bias having worked for Ken at A-T Solutions (emp#152). So for me it was crazy to have worked under his style leadership, then read years later how he approached it. For me it matches up, what he wrote in this book is how he led. I just hope that Ken knows how much working for him changed my life, it turned out to be an adventure of a lifetime. Thank you Master Chief.

Why get another leadership book? I asked myself this before I purchase Ken Falke's book. Reading about Ken's work history, and background in the Navy made me curious about his take on leadership. This book did not disappoint and while there are great stories from the Navy, he also talks about his life as an entrepreneur. The book is easy to digest full of examples and stories. Ten chapters with a concise approach to leading and managing people that applies to someone leading a small summer camp to a CEO of a large corporation. We often try to make leadership seem so complicated. People mystify being a manager. While leading and managing are two different talents, this book addresses both and it will improve your game on all levels. Did I mention it was easy to read?

I highly recommend Lead Well by Ken Falke. It is direct, to the point, without unnecessary words, explanations, or over-complicated models.This book is for you, if you are a team member, beginning your leadership journey, looking for inspiration as a leader or in general, tuning up your leadership skills, and/or an established leader interested in learning with Ken Falke

Bravo to Ken Falke for writing a leadership book that is personal, practical, and inspiring. Most leadership books have a narrow audience, typically those who already are, or aspiring to be, in formal leadership positions in the public and private sectors. Lead Well is a MUST read for them, but it's also for nonprofit and religious leaders. It's for leaders in academic institutions and community groups. It's for anyone who thinks leadership is beyond their grasp. I've been teaching graduate courses in leadership for 25 years. Lead Well will be required reading for my students.

Although this is a book on leadership the reader will find it is about living well, too. I was struck by how so much of this book is about living out principles of humility and respect for others. So what Ken Falke describes is how to carry on successful relationships, and these principles can be applied to all our relationships. Someone who follows the advice in this book will find application to friendships and family relationships, not only the workplace, and will be living well.

Ken distills decades of leadership experience into a very readable and pragmatic approach to getting teams to a place they would otherwise not get to on their own. As an experienced leader myself I thoroughly enjoyed Ken’s storytelling and how those experiences shaped his leadership style. I’ve taught organizational leadership at the University level and I’d recommend his book to those wishing to refresh and enhance their leadership style - and those learning about it for the first time. Well done.

Ken Falke shares with us 10 vital, yet simple things that have made him a very successful leader of various businesses and organizations. He provides examples of good and bad leadership, some best practices, and emphasizes the importance of “not leading in a vacuum.” One can only lead if one has followers, and this book informs (reminds) us how to find and keep our best followers by leading well. Great book!

Being a former Navy enlisted and Officer, I could relate to authors experiences. It was an excellent book.
