If I'm going to invest in a trail bag and tools, etc., then why wouldn't I also invest in protecting those things? After speaking with the seller (No Fear Trail Gear was wonderful) I received the new hardtop/soft top smooth finish model that allowed me to use my factory rear window slots when the soft top is up. Graham made sure to note that if I took my soft top off there would be about a 1" gap at the rear, but that is a nonissue for me. I figured I can get some gasket material or something and fill that void when I take the soft top completely off.This girl installed the Backbone by myself in 45 mins to an hour with a couple of wrenches so I feel confident that you could do the same (though another person could definitely be helpful but certainly not required). I fumbled with the more finished look for the gaskets around the roll bar and the end product was worth the extra time taken to install to me.I love how the Backbone doesn't have its own sides like Tuffy but instead the Backbone uses the Jeep's factory sides which maximizes protected storage space. I thew some motion detecting LEDs in there (~$11 each on Amazon) that attached magnetically and recharge via USB as it does tend to get pretty dark in there. I also noted that on a Jeep forum someone mentioned that a thief could potentially get a crow bar up under the Backbone when the seats are folded down so he had added his own anti-theft hook BUT Backbone must have heard this and acted, now there was a loop welded on the Backbone and some included industrial strength velcro to hook and secure this edge (I think this will make more sense when you are installing it). There are absolutely no places where hardware is accessible for would be thieves, I feel VERY secure with my items in the back. It seems as if it would be pretty darn weather resistant thought they don't claim to be waterproof.I also purchased the cargo carrier to use to secure cargo back there with some bungees. Equally as impressed as completely satisfied with ease of installation and quality of this product from Backbone as well.Supremely happy with the overall quality, ease of install, and peace of mind the Jeep Backbone has provided. Well engineered product, good fit. Shipment arrived ahead of schedule. One corner of one of the plates was slightly bent - easy enough to fix with big pliers. Instructions 98% great, only had one question (...didn't cover exactly what to do about the plastic and rubber components used by the OEM soft top rear window bar...).
