A MIRACLE in a bottle. If you have periodontal issues, you owe it to yourself to get this!
I have been fighting periodontal issues for at least 20 years and have gone from a Periodontist wanting $4800.00 for gum surgery (NO WAY) to every 3 months getting my teeth cleaned, to my last visit on June 9, 2011 being told I needed another deep cleaning AND the dentist wanted me to buy a $900 irrigation/brushing/stimulator system. That day, June 9, I immediately came here to Amazon to find a cheaper solution. That's when I found Periogen. I already owned a Braun oral irrigation system, so I have been using the Periogen in that (until yesterday...I got the Waterpik Ultra with the pocket attachment) and the improvement in my teeth and gums is nothing short of AMAZING!. I got the Periogen on June 11 and it's now July 7, so almost a month of use and the improvement makes me SO HAPPY! I had 3 small pockets that have almost completely closed up and the larger pockets around my molers have improved a LOT, but are still there. I did start the Periogen just 2 days after my dental cleaning, so I started with clean teeth and NO TARTAR has developed on my teeth (tartar can start to develop in 18-20 hours). I use Periogen every morning after my coffee and every night just before going to bed. You may want to start with clean teeth, though it WILL dissolve existing tartar...it will just take some time. I then decided that if I had that Waterpik pocket attachment that can reach far into a pocket, I can hit that tartar and probably improve the moler pockets to a point where they're 100% better. I already know the smaller pockets will closed up 100%. They are already 90% there after just 3+ weeks and not using the pocket attachment! So, yesterday I got my Waterpik Ultra (from Amazon) and used it last night and this morning. This is going to be THE solution. That pocket tip goes right to the source of the problem and the Periogen will eradicate any tartar in the gum pockets. This stuff really IS a miracle. If you have suffered through Periodontal disease and have tried everything else, buy Periogen! You can go to Periogen.com and read their site, check out their blog and the CEO/Admin will answer any questions you may have about Periogen. I'm telling you right now, your dentist and periodontist are going to HATE this stuff. They are going to lose so much money in not getting to cut up gums for THOUSANDS of $$$$ and no more 4 X a year cleanings. Seriously. This stuff WORKS. Do yourself a favor and get Periogen AND the Waterpik Ultra....just for the pocket tip alone, the Waterpik is worth every cent. That pocket tip attachment can reach far into any pocket and the tartar will be dissolved by the Periogen making it possible for the pocket to heal and close up. Here's what I do every morning and every night: Pre-rinse with Closys pre-rinse, scrape my tongue, brush my teeth with Closys toothpaste (Closys products are sold here on Amazon, of course) with my Sonicare toothbrush, rinse with water, put 2 scoops of Periogen (there's a small scoop in the bottle) in my Waterpik tank, fill the tank to the top, use the pocket attachment to hit the pocket tartar with the Periogen, switch the attachment to the jet attachment and do the rest of my teeth (front and back) and the gum line. One full tank can do my whole mouth...YMMV. From what I read on the Periogen web site, once your teeth are clean and your gums are healthy, you CAN just swish with Periogen to keep your teeth clean instead of using the Waterpik. Though I plan to never stop using it in the Waterpik because it's the perfect way to clean my teeth, keep them clean and keep my gums healthy. My next cleaning appointment is in September and I KNOW the hygienist and dentist are going to be shocked by my improvement. I can't wait to see their reactions. :) I will report back in Sept. after I see them. By then my entire mouth should be in GREAT condition. If you are fighting periodontal disease, you owe it to yourself to buy Periogen. I promise you, you will be SO happy you did. You will save a TON of $$$$$$ too. In addition, the instructions tell you to use 1 scoop to 1 cup (8oz.) of water. There was no way 1 cup would have been enough for me, so you may be able to use just 1 scoop to 1 cup of water (1st line on Waterpik tank) if you have just 1 or 2 pockets to address. With using 2 scoops in a full tank I can do my pockets and entire mouth, but went through a bottle of Periogen in 3 weeks. Just some food for thought. :) UPDATE after my dental cleaning today...Sept. 14, 2011! I just got home from having my teeth cleaned and the first thing the hygienist said was, "WOW! No stains on your teeth!" As she cleaned she said, "Your teeth are in excellent condition! I have to give you my most improved award!" After she finished polishing them I asked her if my gums were any better and she said, "Your gums are 100% better! Only one small spot around your back crown bled and other than that, no bleeding at all. Your gums are healthy." Absolutely NO MENTION of needing a deep cleaning! Yay! I was in and out of the chair in 15 minutes. She had NOTHING to clean...except a bit of coffee stain in one spot :)(love my coffee!) As I was paying the bill she ASKED ME (!) if I wanted to continue the every 3-4 month cleanings and I asked her what SHE thought and she recommended ONE MORE 4 month appointment just to make sure I remain diligent in my cleaning :). After the cleaning in January, it's back to two times a year! So, there you have it folks! Periogen WORKS and works WELL! Try it. Be diligent. Use it in your waterpik/irrigator twice a day, once in the morning after breakfast or coffee then at night before bed. Concentrate on the pockets and gumline, front and back. You WILL see a HUGE improvement in your teeth and gums. I promise you you will! Periogen may seem expensive, but in the long run, Periogen will save you THOUSANDS of dollars! I will never be told I need to see a Periodontist again. I know that. I also know my dentist isn't ever going to recommend a deep cleaning or that I buy his $900 cleaning system! Final UPDATE January 18, 2012 dental appointment today: I had my dental appointment today and the first thing the hygienist said when she saw my teeth, "WOW! We have a completely new mouth here!" That pretty much says it all right there, does it not? I saw the dentist today too and as he was examining me he commented about how great my teeth looked and the hygienist piped up and told him, "This is definitely our most improved patient!" This is after I dropped down to using Periogen once a day, at night just before bed. Once the plaque is removed, the Periogen keeps it off by using it once a day. It was getting expensive to use this twice a day using three scoops in my waterpik tank (full tank), so I started at once a day after my last appointment and apparently, that worked perfectly. There it is. Proof positive Periogen WORKS and works well! I'll never stop using this stuff. It REALLY IS a MIRACLE in a bottle! If you have periodontal issues, do yourself and your pocketbook a favor and try Periogen. You will save yourself THOUSANDS of dollars in dental and periodontal work. Just make sure you're consistent with it. USE IT.

This stuff really works!
I have always had problems with tartar buildup. I go to my hygenist every 2 months. Before Periogen use, I used a Phillips Sonicare HX6150 toothbrush, a Waterpik WP-100W flosser, and Dentek Comfort Clean Easy Angle floss picks. I generally do my oral hygene twice a day, with about 11 times a week success rate(missing a few at night, and sometimes on weekends). After adding the scoop of Periogen to my Waterpik, the last two cleanings with my hygenist have shown significantly less buildup on my teeth. The process of the Periogen must get into the semiformed calculus and weaken its bond, allowing the other processes to work better, so that it does not form as much or can be removed easier. It is as simple as that, add a scoop to your Waterpik. I have gone through 2 Waterpiks and 2 Sonicare toothbrushes over the last several years, trying to use the best products on the market to get/keep my teeth and gums in good condition. I went from 4 cleanings a year to 6 cleanings a year because of the severe buildup. Since my insurance only covers 2 per year, you can see that these 4 cleanings out of pocket cost me $540 a year. I might be able to save $270 a year by investing $120 a year for Periogen. Right now I am more interested in keeping my teeth healthy so I am still going 6 times a year and Periogen has worked. I highly recommend this product.

Periogen Works, But Too Expensive
I have been having issues with periodontal disease so I have been seeing my dental hygienist on a quarterly basis for cleanings. After receiving yet another bad review, I bought the three pack of this product along with a Waterpik Ultra Water Flosser about a year ago. I used both products together religiously for about 18 weeks (4 months) until the product ran out. My oral hygienist saw an immediate improvement in my tartar levels and gum health and she asked me what I had done. I explained how I was using the both the WaterPik and the Periogen. The woman called over several other people in the office and showed them my results. I noticed they started offering the Waterpik for purchase in the office upon subsequent visits although no Periogen. Unfortunately, at $10 per ounce, I tried to look for an alternative. My hygienist recommend just using simple and inexpensive baking soda which I had noted was the largest component in the Periogen. I picked up a large box of it at the grocery store for about 53 cents. Initially I was using two teaspoons per 12 ounces of water and that was leaving heavy white residual in the Waterpik vessel, so after cleaning the system with vinegar, I reduce my mixture to one teaspoon per 12 ounces of water. This seems to be OK although I do have some small amount of buildup still in the tip. I just mention this for the fact that never had any residual build-up with the Periogen. In fact, there seems to be an ingredient in the Periogen that causes it to fizz when exposed to water which helps it automatically self-mix. From my reading, this appears to be the result of citric acid and sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) reacting with each other. When using just baking soda, I would mix the solution by immersing the tip under the fluid level and running the pump in a closed loop. Anyway, back to my story... so my subsequent visits to the dentist (there have been three of them since my good result with Periogen) have resulted in a reversal of my improvements despite religiously using my cheaper mix and Waterpik on a daily and often times twice daily routine. In fact, I have added using Plax which also contains Sodium Tripolyphosphate, to my daily cleaning regime and this has not helped either. So I do believe the product is effective especially when combined with the WaterPik. I suspect that the Tetrapotassium Pyrophosphate may be the key ingredient. If the product was more affordable priced I would definitely use this product the rest of my life. As I will demonstrate in this review, this product should be priced at a much cheaper level. Even at $5 to $6 per bottle the manufacturer would still enjoy ridiculous profits. I refuse to support the Periogen company despite the great benefits of the product based on my analysis of the true cost of the product. According to the side of the bottle, the ingredients are: Sodium Bicarbonate, Sodium Tripolyphosphate, Tertrapotassium Pyrophosphate, Citric Acid. Additional Active Ingredient: Sodium Fluoride 0.04%. Looking up industrial chemical prices for these ingredients here: [...] Amazon took out the website link) and in cases where multiple entries exist, I take the highest priced to give Periogen the benefit of the doubt. Sodium Bicarbonate: $34.8 per 100 lbs so $0.348 per lb Sodium Tripolyphosphate: $47.75 per 100 lbs so $0.4775 per lb Tertrapotassium Pyrophosphate: Not Listed (did find food grade versions from China here:[...] for $1000 - $2000 per metric ton. I will use the high figure of $2000 per metric ton, a metric ton is 2204.62 lbs, so $0.91 per lb ). Citric Acid: $0.75 per lb Additional Active Ingredient: Sodium Fluoride 0.04%. $0.63 per lb If we convert these into price per ounce: Sodium Bicarbonate : $0.0218/ounce Sodium Tripolyphosphate: $0.0298/ounce Tertrapotassium Pyrophosphate: $0.0567/ounce Citric Acid: $0.0469/ ounce Sodium Fluoride 0.04%: $0.0394/ounce Although we don't know the actual composition within the bottle, expect for the sodium fluoride concentration (0.04%), we do know that the ingredients are listed in order of greatest percentage within the bottle. Sodium Bicarbonate : 24.99% to 99.9% Sodium Tripolyphosphate: 0.05% to 24.99% Tertrapotassium Pyrophosphate: 0.05% to 24.99% Citric Acid: 0.05% to 24.99% Sodium Fluoride: 0.04% (Edit: it appears my conventional wisdom may be incorrect on this point. According to the patent, the compositional bounds are listed as: "A composition for dissolving subgingival calculus in a subgingival pocket after formation thereof comprising: a) from 20% to 40% by weight of tetrapotassium pyrophosphate; b) from 20% to 40% by weight of sodium tripolyphosphate; c) from 5% to 20% by weight of sodium bicarbonate; d) from 4% to 20% by weight of citric acid; and e) from 0.01 to 1% by weight of sodium fluoride; wherein the composition is effective to dissolve subgingival calculus." If this is accurate, the ordering on the bottle is out of order. It is not even worth running calculations at this point. Even if the bottle was 100% the most expensive ingredient it would cost about 6 pennies per ounce. The 3 bottles that I purchased for $75.00 contained 9 total ounces of Periogen and cost the company about $0.54. I can't believe that the blending, bottling, marketing, and administration etc. would amount to more than a $1 per bottle. Let's just say, that they are getting some special grade of chemical that costs 10x more than normal. So each bottle costs them $5.40 with a $1 to get it blended and bottled and to cover their other expenses, $6.40 per bottle in total cost at $30 is $23.60 profit. So they make 3.7x their costs on each bottle sold. In other words, gross margin is 370% and that is based on even tipping the scales in their favor by already increasing the cost of their materials by 10x. If we really want to get technical, they sell a product that might cost $1.54 per bottle for $30.00. They are making $28.46 per bottle or 1848% net margin. That level of greed offends me. Well, I guess you can price your patented product for whatever the market will bear. Although with supply and demand, they likely are not operating on the most optimal part of the profit maximization curve. In fact, given these prices, I image you are far off the mark. Consider for a moment what would happen if your delivery system partner (Waterpik) engaged in the same profit structure. They currently sell the WaterPik Ultra Water Flosser for $46.97. They probably make a decent profit of $10 per unit (21% margin). However, if they did a similar type of markup to their product (and I do believe that the benefits of your product derive at least 50% from the method of delivery (i.e. access the deep recess beneath the gumline), they would need to sell these WaterPik Ultra Water Flossers for $868.00. How many WaterPik Ultra Water Flossers do you think would be sold annually at this price? I think you have a great product, but for my next $75, I'll just buy my own chemicals and make my own formulation that is similar to yours but not infringing (just outside your patented bounds) which you have conveniently listed in your patents which I downloaded off of Google this afternoon. In fact, I have been so frustrated by what you are doing, I have actually went out and priced what it would cost for me to make my own. I am already looking into buying inexpensive scales, blending equipment, and sourcing chemicals (although not at great prices, or at least not like those that a major supplier could get), I am still coming up with a price of about $85 for 14 lbs of the material (1.5 yr supply). That comes out to 37 cents per ounce or 1/27 the asking price of $10 per ounce. So the manufacturer is asking for 1 unit to cover his costs and 26 units of profit. Does that strike anyone else as being a bit excessive. I'm looking at method of packing the material to preserve it (Foodsaver) and even found the silica gel dessicant supplier pricing (Uline) for your half gram packets (those cost you less than 2.2 cents per bottle). I am a R&D chemical engineer with MBA with loads of free time. Maybe you'll drive me into doing my own R&D into this pressing problem. I could build my own company and create an affordable substitute. Then I can drop out of the corporate grind and get rich. I'll undercut your prices (mine will sell for $4, net profit of over $3.00 per equivalent bottle) yet still enjoy 300% profit margin rather than 1848% levels you require. I recall a business case which will be very similar to our relationship: Kodak vs. FujiFilm. You see FujiFilm was willing to accept much much smaller gross margins than Kodak and more or less linearly ate away at Kodak's margin year-after-year. As it built its market share, FujiFilm gained all of the economies of scale that its former competitor once enjoyed. Meanwhile Kodak was saddled with excessive capacity and costs. Kodak was one of the first companies to invent digital photography but loss of its core business and resulting chaos allowed other Japanese companies to grab that market space as well. I want to be like the Indian billionaire monk (Manoj Bhargava) who started 5 Hour Energy. Last time I checked 5 Hour Energy cost $3 per bottle, not $84 per bottle. At $84 per bottle, the accessible market for the product is like zero. At $3, the market is enormous and you get rich. You can read more about Manoj at Forbes (he made the list of Forbes Richest People which is where I learned about him). I offer a truce based on a new proposal to Periogen. You have a great product that seems to do amazing things. Rather than gouging your customers, how about you just boost your sales volume by more fairly pricing your product. Your pricing now is an obstacle to growing your market. With more rational pricing, you can make every American your customer. Besides, you will never be able to negotiate big volume deals with Walmart, Target, CostCo and other big chain, any of the national chains CVS, Walgreens, etc., because someone like me is going to run the numbers and see that they just don't compute. I visited your website today. Aesthetically, pleasing it is not. But I do like the video. It really needs to be redone along with the website to give it a more professional sheen. I also watched a Youtube video from a San Diego medical conference. I like the inventor. He is obviously a well spoken, honest and intelligent guy. His value proposition pitch was quite effective. Again, I think what is needed is better marketing strategy. You need to hire a professional web designer for a couple of hundred bucks to elevate the professionalism of your company. Also get a video crew together build some clean, high def video that lay out the science in easy to understand language for the American public to understand. This video can also be redistributed to dentist offices at low cost. If I were running strategy, I would also make contact with some dentists in Hollywood who service the needs of the stars. Get some celebrities on your product. Then what you do what Gunthy Renker did so masterfully with ProActive as well as what Nutrisystem has also done. You launch your product on a national scale via infomercial. You educate the customer about the growing problem of gingitivis/periodontal disease/bad breath/heart disease, etc. Get some celebrity spokesman and run infomercials, again selling your product at a reasonable price so that every American can easily afford it (no brainer decision). You get contact information for your customers and try to get them setup with auto-renewing purchases. With the enormous surge in volume due to better pricing, you still enjoy even greater economies of scale. You start displacing mouthwashes and other expensive and less desirable treatments (scaling, anti-microbial injection, etc.). You build the Periogen brand. Using your massive profit windfall, you launch an enormous state of the art R&D facility to future understand mouth microbiology. You instruct your scientists to solve the problem of gum loss (from excessive brushing, gingivitis, periodontal disease, etc.). Using the most cutting edge pharmaceuticals, stem cell research, etc. -- your team ultimately discovers a way to regrow healthy gums. You, the inventor, retire having enhanced the lives of millions of customers around the world rather than thousands you can currently help. How about that? A Couple More Ideas: Furthermore, rather than selling these small bottles which end up adding a lot of shipping expense, just send us long slender bottles (to minimize the cross-sectional area exposed to air/water vapor. I am thinking of a bottle that will last a year. Will require devising a better method of dispensing the daily dosage. Perhaps you could even invent a method of preserving the material (like a Foodsaver except for this water sensitive powder). To be honest, I have so many ideas right now on how I could make improvements to your business like a better delivery system (sealed pellets) or a scooper integrated in the bottle cap to avoid the pain of using that stupid blue spoon. I think a bottle lasts 6 weeks, so just send us 27 ounces per bottle. Or better yet, send us enough so that we can do this treatment 3 times per day using 2 scoops rather than 1! I mean really. The price of this material is so cheap, why treat it like its some other precious white powder smuggled in from Colombia. The stuff is cheap. We can afford to using 2 or 3 scoops per 12 ounces. When I run the math, that will still only amount to 27 x 3 x 2 = 162 ounces (~10 lb bucket). The blending costs don't really change and we get rid of a lot of small bottles (more plastic) for a single bigger container (less plastic). Sell me that product for $52 per year ("just a dollar a week" - infomercial) and I will buy it the rest of my life (auto-reorder). According to my calculations, that 10 lb bucket would only cost about $10, so you would still be making 400% profit... just not 1800%. Gingivitis and periodontal disease is a growing epidemic. (See: [...] Amazon removed my link... use the Tinyurl website and this code 'cxtky7z' at the end to find the PDF I wanted to share - this document also explain the meaning of Löe-Silness Gingivitis Index (GI) which will be referred to in a moment from a recent 2010 study of the prevalence of gingivitis) This study [...]again, Amazon censored my link, again use Tinyurl and this code 'cqqrkkk'] indicates the following results: "The race composition of the subjects (mean age 37.9) approximated to the 2004 U.S. Census data. The overall average GI was 1.055. Only 6.1% of subjects showed mean GI<0.50; most (93.9%) were > or = 0.50, with 55.7% > or = 1.00. There was a significant correlation (P<0.001) between the age and GI. The males' GI was significantly higher (P<0.001) than the females'; African-Americans showed a significantly higher GI (P<0.05) than other races except for the Native-Americans." You sure would be doing the world a great service by growing your business, making money back for your investors, and helping the rest of mankind combat this problem and ancillary conditions that can be caused by bacterial infection like heart disease. Your product could particularly help African-Americans and Native-Americans and African-American men and Native-American men in particular and older African-American men and Native-American men to be even more focused. If my other arguments have not worked, maybe I can appeal to your liberalism helping downtrodden ethnic minorities who have lower incomes and are thus being unfairly priced out of the market (disparate impact)? What do you say? P.S. I am an engineer who really likes to make decisions based on science. Can you post studies or easy to follow video on your website or Youtube that explains the magic behind your product. For instance, how does Periogen inhibit the formation of biofilm. From that pdf I linked to above where in the progression is Periogen blocking and reversing the ill effects of gingitivis and ultimately periodontal disease? I also like to understand a bit about how inventions came into being. How did you make this discover? Are you a dentist? The infomercial ought to explain this. P.S.S. I would also appreciate it if you could use those massive profits to perform some R&D into the type of water being used and its influence on the efficacy of the Periogen solution. I have very hard water where I live. I am concern about the minerals in my water adversely affecting the product. If the product will work better (like 10x) with distilled water, that would be helpful for your customers to know. "According to Mariotti (1999), the characteristics of biofilm-induced gingivitis are: (1) biofilm present at gingival margin; (2) change in gingival color; (3) change in gingival contour; (4) sulcular temperature change; (5) increased gingival exudate; (6) bleeding upon provocation; (7) absence of attachment loss; (8) absence of bone loss; and (9) histological changes. The intensity of the clinical signs and symptoms will vary among individuals as well as among sites within a dentition." There is no mention by this scientist about tartar. I have to believe the bacteria find the tartar to be a useful home for hiding out, getting nutrients, and launching raids on my gum tissue.

Great Results
Periogen Tartar Dissolving Oral Rinse is one product that really delivers on its claim. I usually go to the dentist 3 times a year for a cleaning as I just accumulate a lot of tartar even though I brush (2 minutes with electric tooth brush)twice a day, floss after each meal plus before bedtime, and use a WaterPik before bedtime, and I still have a terrible time with tartar. It was almost time for my next cleaning when Periogen was purchased along with a new WaterPik Flosser and after only three uses using the minimum amount suggested, the tartar that was stuck to my teeth was gone, and 6 weeks later, using the product before bedtime, I still have no tartar. This is like a miracle for me. Oh, the dental appointment for cleaning was canceled!

A Definite Must Have for Dental Hygiene
I find this to be a definite must have for anyone who is suffering from gingivitis or has a tar and plaque problem. Especially good for smokers and anyone else who has to pay high dental fees for those deep gum cleanings. I have seen stuff come out of my mouth that I didn't even suspect was there after using the product and have been using it twice a day religiously for over a month. My next deep gum cleaning is scheduled for Sept. 2016 and I will have just about finished my three bottles by then to see what my hygienist says. I must comment that I use this product before I use my water pic and it does make my teeth look brighter and cleaner. But then I follow up with a Listerine mouthwash and brush my teeth using the waterpic again. This routine morning and night has given me confidence to smile without worrying there is food particles caught in my teeth much less showing the yellowing effect of coffee stains. The key is to continue using it to obtain optimal results and although I was initially hesitant to purchase this product due to some negative reviews, I know my own habits and had to see for myself. I highly recommend this product for people suffering bad dental hygiene and I was not given any compensation to review this product. I'm just an ordinary consumer like you

Do not buy. Contains acid that will eat away your enamel.
This is a total scam. It contains citric acid. You saw that correctly, citric acid. You shouldn't put acid on your teeth as it eats away the enamel. Enamel cannot be replaced. Do not buy. You've been warned.

Works, but horribly over-priced by an unethical company.
If you've read some of the more in-depth reviews and you know what's inside, then you know that this product is GROSSLY over-priced. The manufacturer should be ashamed. Absolutely disgusting. If you want to remove stubborn plaque, then expect to go through THREE bottles ($70+) per month. Most dentists will charge $300-$500 for a good cleaning/scraping -- so, do the math. You can give up this product and simply go to the dentist and have the same thing done, in less time, with less expense. Again, absolutely shameless in terms of pricing. You can buy the primary ingredient for less than $3 -- PER POUND.

Good, but the price is outrageous!
I have used periogen rinse before and yes it is good. But man! The price!! I saw someone else’s review that recommended periadactol kit, and for the price and the many good reviews, I am willing to try it. This price is just absurd on periogen. That is why I give it 2 stars.
