Brighter Than the Sun
This is the last brother standing. Joe is the last one who has fallen in love. Zoe is Rusty's friend and is needing help. Now this is one story where the mission is not the reason for their meeting but Rusty has her staying at the family homestead. His gut told him there was more to the story the two girls had been telling everyone. And his feelings for her was strong from the minute he locked eyes on her. There is drama in this with her past coming to take her away. But I was pleased where this was a book to listen to.

Joe Kelly's Story
I have followed the KGI series for several years. I fell in love with the Kelly family from the first book. Joe's story is one that I have looked forward to. Unlike many of the earlier stories, this one is more focused upon the relationship of Joe and Zoe instead of the suspense the series is known for.Zoe is a young woman who is on the run. Rusty, her college friend, helps her and brings her home for a visit. While there, Zoe and Joe meet and the last standing Kelly bachelor takes a fast fall. All doesn't go easily for Joe. His greatest obstacle is helping Zoe to discover her worth. A lifetime of abuse has left her fragile and lost. Joe shows a tender side that rarely we have seen in previous books. Just as things are falling into place for them, a nightmare comes a back from Zoe's past that threatens everything. Joe and KGI have to race to rescue Zoe before she is lost forever. In this book, we get to see all the KGI family. There are moments that will make you laugh and moment as that are heartbreaking. There is a particularly crushing moment near the end of the story that will have you both crying and ready to smack someone.I absolutely loved this story. I ended up reading it all in one sitting, staying up into the wee hours of the morning to finish the book. I just couldn't put out down.

3.5 stars
Joe, former military and now working for KGI, is the last of the Kelly clan to find his forever after and is not looking for it either. When Zoe arrives with his sister Rusty, he knows sheโs hiding something and is determined to find out. Zoeโs mother left when she was younger, raised by her controlling crime lord father, and hiding from her ex who wants to kill her. Joe is determined to win Zoe but when sheโs taken, he will move heaven and earth to get her back.Let me first say I love Maya Banks books. This was a great story but some things bothered me. When Zoeโs taken, thereโs no lead up to it. No mention of why her ex was using her to get to her father besides wanting his business. Several places there was no separation between the characters view. That drives me crazy because I have to keep rereading it to figure out whatโs going on. This is my opinion and if itโs confusing Iโm sorry.

We!ll...its not what I expected.
So the beginning prepares us for Zoe and Rusty's plan. It works until Joe notices a few things that are not quite right. The women keep their secret from everyone. Rusty is a true genius. Its very....wordy with no action or suspense. Suddenly the bad guys show up. How? No clue. Why they did what they were doing it was never explained. Rusty and Sean explode in a bad way. He is an ass. The Brothers gang up on Rusty during her worst hour ever. It was way harsh. She breaks. Not sure there is a fix for it. I love Rusty. She needs/deserves a happy ending. Please!!!!

Everything I expected and more.
Joe surpassed all my expectations and was sensitive, thoughtful and supportive man; the side he did not often show. He's as alpha as the rest of the KGI men (that includes Skylar and PJ), but as much as he denied he'd ever fall, he fell quick and hard and soul deep.Zoe is lost. She's been living a life for her father and the man she thought cared for her, the victim of significant mental abuse and neglect since she was a child. She entrusts Rusty, her only friend, with her life.Rusty is a friend for life, and would (and did) do anything for her friend. But Rusty is dealing with her own issues (he has a name we know well!) Rusty keeps her secret and brings her home to the KGICompound.Joe meets Zoe and cannot deny what he sees and feels. He's been struck! But getting her to a place where she can see what and who she is and not was she was taught, is a long journey. Joe melts my heart. But this is a KGI story so it's not a bit meet girl, fall in love, HEA type of story. Brighter than the Sun does not disappoint and will touch you deeply. They get their HEA and Zoe can return the friendship Rusty gave so freely.Enjoy Brighter Than The Sun. It was worth the wait for Joe's story. Rusty, well she will break your heart and have you holding your breath for her story.

Had No Action!!
First off I need to say that I feel one of the reasons Ms. Banks writing in this series has changed so much is the constantly conflicting reviews. The last several books were given poor reviews mainly due to the violence done to the heroine. In this book there was no depth to the heroine, she just kept repeating her self loathing and we never really learned her back story. Who was this Sebastian and how did he find her, what happened after the small bit of action? Allie was shot, apparently had surgery, but we never heard anymore about her character. Joe made no sense as he went from never wanting to settle down to being madly in love in 3 days. There has been tension between Rusty and Sean forever but we are really never given much real background in it. The intimate scenes in this book were mechanical and PG at best, I blame this on the fact that Ms Banks has had so many bad reviews because anyone who has ever read any of her other novels knows she can write great sex. I've read all the other books in this series except the last one, I didn't buy it because of some of the early reviews and the price. I'm going to go back and buy it, because I've read all the other books in this series but that one. Up until this book I've enjoyed the series, some more than others, but I have a feeling that this glossed over PG version is in some ways the author trying to appease the negative reviews of the last book. I hope this episode is a one off, as I plan to continue buying this series. Ms Banks please go back to the way you wrote the series in the beginning, with great sex and lots of action!

Joe & Zoe's story was captivating. Seriously kept me on the edge of my seat. Of course it ended way too soon. KGI is a superb series. Bring on Rusty & Sean ๐
