A very solid and inexpensive headphone amp option
A very nice little amp; it handles a good variety of headphones under 100 ohm impedance with zero trouble and presents a very clean sound (i.e., it doesn't add any qualities of its own other than increasing the gain). Pretty close to ideal for a cheap headphone amplifier. Why pay more when this will do the job for most things? Obviously, if you have a set of 600-ohm Beyerdynamics or some top-of-the-line audiophile equipment, you'll probably want something better, but for most people this is plenty. Worked great out of the box, decent build quality, with self-explanatory labeling, this amp has given me zero problems.

Good For Extra Volume
Its solidly built, has some heft and is definitely sturdy. Comes with the appropriate power block and a 1/4 to 1/8 adapter. As to how it sounds? It certainly made the headphones much louder, but the bass response is not what I expected. The soundthrough the headphones gets shrill but I was able to adjust for that somewhat using the software EQ. I'm using it with the mobo sound and Windows 10 so maybe thats not helping but the bass was deeper (though quieter) without the amp. I'm using ShureSRH750DJ headphones with a 5hz to 30000hz range. (https://www.amazon.com/Shure-SRH750DJ-Professional-Quality-Headphones/dp/B002PAQYK8) It /did/ help with volume but sound quality took a hit.

Worked just as I had hoped. Very happy.
Boosted the weak headphone output of my computer so I can crank up the volumewithout encountering distortion. So far it works perfectly.I use it with my AKG headphones. Excellent combination. Can't hear a word the wife is saying.Court of the Crimson King is screaming in my ears.Bliss.

Insane power for under $70, but not without issues.
This little anp puts out a crap ton of power. You're pretty much be able to power almost anything you need with it but, I wouldn't be surprised if distortion kicks in at higher volumes. Unfortunately, the noise floor is crazy high, so it makes it a no-go with IEMs or on-ears that are pressed close to your ears. Especially with IEMs it's very audible. The build quality is actually pretty dang good, with an all metal enclosure. My biggest problem with it is that there are just better options out there for around the same price. Pick up a used JDS Atom for around $70 on eBay when the crop up, and you'll be very happy. It's better than the SMSL in every way except for build quality. Or, the FX Audio DAC X6 for $65 has similar amounts of power (with a lower noise floor!) when switched to high gain with the internal jumpers, and has a decent DAC in it too.

The TI chip used in this unit is one of the best headphone amplifiers made
Unit came with 9VDC power supply. It should come with a 24VDC power supply. Had no output. Blue LEDs were very dim. The TI chip used in this unit is one of the best headphone amplifiers made. I would like to find a working one of these. I have used a working one of these and i would rate it 5 stars.

Great headphone amplifier, needs a different power supply
Great sounding an powerful headphone amplifier for cheap! There's only two drawbacks and it has to do with the power supply. The power supply, while being small, has an external cord that plugs into the wall. It's not necessary and makes it bulky, the size of the power brick could easily fit above or between plugs on a power strip with proper terminals. The other issue is the power supply actually does not supply enough power. With proper size headphones the amplifier shuts off above 75% volume, comes back on just below. I found it was actually the power supply shutting off.

Awesome, my drummer loves this headphone amp, it can drive the AKG 240 headset to the max.

Great sound for the price.
I bought this for a new pair of HIFIMAN HE40i I have and I love it. More than enough power. Nice clean sound. So far i have found no drawbacks to this amp.

If you're buying to power high-impedance headphones, look elsewhere.
I bought this amp to power some Beyerdynamic DT990s that I recently purchased, they were the 250 ohm version so my DAC wasn't powerful enough to drive them. This amp works well with the volume knob at around 12 o'clock or so, but if you go any higher, you'll find that bass-heavy audio will cause clipping/distortion. It's not as annoying for music since you can just adjust it per-track, but with movies or tv shows, whenever some heavy bass is used for some sound effect, it will be very annoying to always fiddle with the volume while watching a show. For me, 12 o'clock just wasn't loud enough for some songs, I really need more headroom. If you're using low-impedance headphones, it may work fine as it did with my AKG K550s, since going anywhere past 12 o'clock will blow your ear drums out with low-impedance headphones. It's also worth noting that while this amp has a lot of amplification volume, in the case of high-impedance headphones it doesn't seem to deliver a lot of actual power to the headphones, as I noticed that with the new amp I bought (Topping DX3 Pro) to replace this one, the bass on the new amp is way more powerful even at lower volumes, so it seems that the DX3 can provide way more power.I actually returned and tried buying a second one because I thought I just had a defective unit, but it had pretty much the same problem. I also tried to Email S.M.S.L but they did not respond at all, so I can't give them any good marks for customer support either. Lesson learned, you get what you pay for. I had to pay over three times as much for the DX3, but it was worth it; it actually works pretty well, unlike this junk. It's a shame because I really *love* the minimalist design and that huge 1/4-inch jack in the middle, and I wanted to like this little thing, but it just doesn't have the muscle to drive high-impedance headphones without audible distortion.

Excellent sound, had to return the first one
I had a very similar experience to another reviewer of this amp (there's two listings for it, his review is on the other) in that the power switch stopped working after a day or two - it remained constantly on. Anyhow, it was such a good device otherwise that I decided to return and get a direct replacement. Amazon were excellent as always and the new amp is working just fine.So I'm taking a star off because there's clearly a problem that needs to be addressed if it's not just a one off. Otherwise I'm extremely happy with the amp, I have it paired with an SMSL DAC and Nobsound tube preamp and for the cash I'm not sure I could do much better. It easily drives every pair of phones I plug into it, it has power to spare. I noticed that the second unit I was sent had a fused plug and I'd recommend checking yours has the same, it wouldn't surprise me if a spike blew the first unit's power switch out.If you need a powerful compact headphone amp then this had to be in contention, the difference between the sound from this and the headphone output on the DAC is definitely a worthwhile upgrade. It's effortless and has almost no background noise. For the cash it's a bit of a bargain. Recommended, but I'll be keeping an eye on it after my unfortunate experience with the first unit.
