Doesn’t the mineral spirits in the wax take off some of the original polyurethane finish or whatever wood pieces are stained and finished with?

Yes, mineral spirits will damage/cloud a polyurethane finish. If your finish is polyurethane you want the one of the other waxes above that contain no mineral spirits.
