Comping Standards for Jazz Guitar

a minimal treatment but very good
My introduction to Jim Ferguson was his blues comping book. He begins that with a solid discussion of Freddy Green voicings. This book has nothing comparable, but is still excellent. Most of the book relies on drop voicings, and a little discussion (not included) of how these work would be essential for understanding what he is up to in this book. Also you will need some background on chord scales and harmonizing with fourth chords. The strength of the book is that it covers a wide range of jazz repertory, and a variety of comping strategies, each sounds quite good if a little mainstream. From these basic comps, I am hoping to build towards a hipper comping strategy.

Once Again, the Good Stuff
All of Jim Ferguson's books are superb– lean, focused, informative, and genuine. What we have here is a series of comping examples in various chordal styles including "I Can't Get Started", "Out of Nowhere", "Rhythm Changes", "Blue Bossa", "Confirmation", "Autumn Leaves", "Bluesette", "Scrapple from the Apple", "Four", "All the Things You Are", and "Wave." I've been able to find only a relative handful of books like this depicting authentic comping in Freddie Green, bossa nova, walking bass, chord shell, and chord scale styles. I think you'll be VERY satisfied with Mr. Ferguson's solutions to these tunes.

good book intermediate level
so far a very good book ( i am up to page 18). Considering my jazz level, it's confirming me what I know, but in a more precise manner; I think it will help me to continue working and advance in my knowledge of chord scales relationship for instance. It's also concise, and does not drown you with theory.

Great book!
Very good book by a very good author/player. Starts at a level that advance beginners and intermediate can understand. This is very helpful to those who want to learn to the play the standards and begin to be come advance in comping and soloing to those standards.

Comping Standards for Jazz Guitar
Very boring stuff. I had a hard time just listening to the poor recordings on the cd.Even the Blue Bossa that I know sounded boring the way he comped it.Just not what I expected.
