Without Any Warning: Casualties of a Caribbean Vacation

I've been reading and watching so many things about people having lost limbs due to sepsis , amputation and other terrible things. Most of these people seem to feel that it will work out from the beginning. Maybe it was because Stefanie is young that she grieved as much as she did. But I've never really understood how everyone else seemed to adapt immediately to their new bodies. She sustained injuries that someone older would not have survived. I also don't understand how her doctors allowed her to get to 80 pounds without giving her anti nausea meds! I'm a cancer survivor and they saved me from being deathly ill. I felt every assault on her body. I wish I could go back in time and tell her to listen to her instinct and not go on that trip. She is remarkable because she felt was all of us would feel. And she perservered

I just finished reading this book. The author is honest and inspiring. Life isn't easy for any of us, I think, and it is dismaying that there are bad people in this world. Even though the author definitely experienced this (difficulties and pain in life, experiencing the effects of bad people on one's life), she has persevered to be able to appreciate and enjoy the goodness that life also offers. This is a very worthwhile read, and I'm very grateful that the author shared her story with us.

I loved the book. I like stories that are true to life.

I am almost done reading this book and I highly recommend this book. It's so sad how a dream vacation can turn into a nightmare and the lasting effects on the patient and her family are enormous. I don't really feel like I have any family support and I hate what some patients have had to go through but I must say it's wonderful to know that there are families that support one another. It also scares me about what would happen to me if I ever had to go through such a tragedy alone. I don't know how people get through such devastating accidents. You must read Stephanie's story.

This story is amazing, awful, heart breaking, terrible, and wonderful. Stefanie, I don't even know where to begin. How could you deal with such pain, surgeries, emotional stress, physical limitations, and you are so young to be handed this! I am so so sorry that such a terrible thing could happen to you.But then you wrote this book, sharing your story with us, and I am so appreciative that you wrote it. You helped me understand more about how precious life can be. Thank you. I now appreciate every day of life, by listening to your story. Thank you for such courage, so strong physically and mentally. You are so amazing! Thank you for letting me and the rest of the readers have your story. I will never forget it. I will always try and appreciate what I have and the fresh air that I breath each moment. Thank you Stefanie. You are a beautiful sole.

I found this to be a heartbreaking, almost incredible story. A story I could not put down. Stefanie is indeed a very strong woman. (SPOILER:) - It's unbelievable how the culprits were able to avoid prosecution.

Stephanie's Unfortunate accident makes me angry at those responsible. Her story is heartbreaking and life changing, yet she didn't give up, despite her obstacles. One cannot imagine her struggles at such a young age, but with the help and support of her family, doctors and therapists, she pushed forward to healing inside and out. Everyone should to read her story of courage and determination.

This is an amazing well written book. Such a horrific accident but this author is able to relay all she has endured in a well written account. To imagine all she has endured is heartbreaking. I highly recommend this book.

A wonderful book, very insightful for anyone thinking of travelling . This book can be so helpful to so many people in multiple ways. I have been following this story since the beginning and I am so impressed by the author. Very inspiring.
