My dogs still drink from it and have noticed birds drinking as well. I addition, one of my dogs ate one, it just gave him diarrhea for a couple of days. I do break them up and use crumbs in the bird baths in the front garden. Even though I have never see all a bird drink from there, I know I have never picked up a dead bird up from around the bird baths either. **Q: can i put these in my horses drinking water?** A: Why not ask the seller? Do you think I want to be responsible if something happened to your horses? Hint: Change the drinking water, you won't need these mosquito dunks. **Q: Can product be used in a rain barrel?** A: Yes. I just throw half of one dunk in my 30 gallon barrel...works great. A 55-gal drum would be best to use a whole one. Takes at least 24 hrs to start working, usually. **Q: Will these dunks reactivate if the pond dries up and then fills with rain again?** A: I put a quarter of a dunk in my bird bath and it dries up on occasion and seems to work when I refill it. I love these for my little water ponds.
