Great bang for the buck
I got this to replace a a 10 year old Pioneer surround receive with just 5.1 surround. My theater was built for 7.1 but it was only running 5.1 My old system did not pass audio through the HDMI so you could not get 7.1 even though it had back channels, those were for 6.1, rarely used in most sound tracks. I was wanting to be able to have Dolby TrueHD 7.1 and Atmos surround so this was a good deal. I paid about 500.00 or more for the pioneer i have 10 years ago and this is way better for half the cost. I love the zone 2 feature which is great to send audio to the game room with one system. The theater will drop the back channels or the height channels to send power to the game room but when you turn the zone two power off the back channels or height come back on. Not an issue to me. You can zone 2 out through rca channels out to a second sound system without loosing back channels but i like simplifying with just one system. I also like the networking aspect, this allows you to stream audio directly to the system with an app and your able to remote control the system with a ios or android app. You can control the volume power and settings etc. with the app, great for when you in zone 2 and not in reach of the receiver in zone 1. Plenty of power and clean audio. I really enjoy having so many HDMI inputs with audio pass through. My old system only had two HDMI's this has 6. My old one would not receive audio you had to use optical cables for 5.1 or 6.1 on that one, 7.1 or 7.2 can only be sent through HDMI. The setup and settings are done through the HDMI to our projector or TV is some people case, and its very easy to navigate. Onkyo made it all make sense. Some setting can be made on the ios app as well and that makes since too. Setup was quick, it first sets up with a wizard when you first turn it on so make sure you have your tv on so you can view the messages. And it steps you through the system as well checking your equipment connections. you can always go back and rerun the setup at anytime. I spent more time connecting wires and cleaning up all the cables than setting up the system to be ready once powered on.Much better upgrade for me and the technology is so much more advanced in 10 years and the price has dropped remarkably. Not sure why some say they dont think its a quality receiver, when i think right the opposite and I'm very in tune with A/V being in the business first hand. Onkyo did not cheap out. The $1,000.00 units folks are talking about, yea you get a great piece of equipment in that range but that's an overkill for most people. If you need simple clean power with some bells and whistles that put out great sound this will get the job done and fairly well.

Perfect for gaming at 7.1 surround. Great sound, with no video/sound lag.
This receiver works wonders for my game/theater room. The setup is quite easy and felt very fulfilling to say the least. The quality and build are very eye appealing and we'll though. I had no problem connecting my speaker or my sub. This sound is very high quality, setup is quick and easy. The receiver did most of the setup for me, I had to do a few adjustments for my personal tasting, but the devices own calibration was quite nice as well. I use the system in it 7.1 layout. It have yet to try the 5.2.2 or the 7.2, but I can see the the options are readily available for the choosing. The UI is very simple, but not lacking in features. Since my speaker and wires were already run in preparation for the receiver, it only took 15 minutes to connect everything and be up and running. I use the system primary for gaming, I notice no delay from my PS4 inputs to the sreen, not do I notice sound delay. I am overall statistics with this product and loving the sound of my games and movies. I have my personal movie theater in my house now.

good value needs a little time for setup
I love this receiver I use it for ps3 ps4 off air tv and link to my phoneits got good sound but I had to go deep into the menus to find the sound I wanted took a few hours of trial and errorThe set up mic was nice to get the distances and anomalies sorted outthen find the eq menu and modify from there I had to turn my sub up pretty high for it to sound testI use the stereo cross over so the filter on the sub is now set to high as it goes (using both filters causes other issues so I let the onkyo do its job) I have 2 subs 10 and 15 set up after the auto eq was neededquick menu is nice sometimes the center channel is louder for musicI am using the 5.2.2 not a true atmos speakers but its definately noticed on good audio tracksnot eath shattering but the speakers I am using sre not high $$ yetPass through works as it should when you want it offchanging sources sometimes results in having to turn it off then on and it resumes sound but its minor for all the audio features 7.2 is fun too its nice to have choices and new things to trynot sure which will be the final setuptheree is more than enough options to get the sound you want I prefer a little more bass than the auto eq and its easy to find once you take a little timeno buyers remorse I am pretty happy

BEST BANG FOR YOUR BUCK
I purchased this unit to replace my very data Pioneer system. I had no issues with the old systems performance beyond its inability to handle multiple HDMI inputs. However, being that I was familiar with Onkyo from earlier in life, I sprung for the unit and it has exceeded my needs and expectations, and brought along wireless connectivity, Bluetooth, Pandora and a host of other features i have found very useful and couldn't imagine not having, now that i have them.It was a breeze to setup. I was please with the ability to profile your listening environment through the setup process by placing a mike and allowing the unit to make the necessary adjustments in our home theater. While my days of being a true audiophile have come and gone. I can say I am very pleased with the purchased and would recommend this unit to anyone with a small to medium sized home theater, game or family room.Well done, Onkyo.
