Normal skin is not too dry and not too oily, with no or few imperfections or severe sensitivity and barely visible pores. Dehydrated and dry skin means that your skin is lacking water and essential moisture. It can be dry, itchy, flaky, or cracking, and perhaps dull looking, too. Your overall tone and complexion may appear uneven, and fine lines are more noticeable. Oily skin is caused by our skin producing excess oil often leaving the skin looking shiny and/or greasy. This overproduction of oil can often lead to blocked pores causing breakouts, blackheads, and oily skin. As we age, our skin starts to lose a lot of the natural components that keep it plump and youthful-looking. As a result, skin starts to lose elasticity and firmness and collagen begins to slow down and break which can cause sagging in the skin, fine lines, wrinkles, uneven skin tone, and skin roughness. Combination skin means that you have oily skin in some areas of your face and dry skin in other areas. Typically, there's a mix of oily and dry areas on different parts of your face, with the t-zone (forehead, nose, and chin) being slightly to very oily with relatively dry-to-normal cheeks. Skin appears unbalanced. An uneven skin tone, called hyperpigmentation, is an irregular darkening of the skin. This is caused by an overproduction of melanin, the pigment responsible for skin color. The result is dark patches and spots causing the skin tone to look uneven. Redness in the skin also can contribute to uneven skin tone. Some other reasons for pigmentation include acne scarring and sun damage.
