excellent read
Loved the way the story pulled me forward as I learned about the people in Thunder Point. Good messages about positive ways to live a healthy life and recover from the challenges life can give you.

Good story
The Newcomer earns 4 stars for story. It would have been 5 if there had been less raging teenage hormones and more of the adult romances and stories. The characters were interesting and kept me reading. Every one should be lucky enough to have a wise Aunt Lou. As for the location authenticity of location, like the first book, I had to imagine Thunder Point as a California coastal town, not the southern Oregon coast. I'm disappointed one of my favorite authors did not research the area and Oregon law more. Did the author even go to Coquille? Coquille may be the country seat, but there is little in the town other than the courthouse and a hospital. The hospital is the only one between Bay Area Medical Center in Coos Bay and Roseburg in Douglas county. So several points I wish to make about Coos county and Oregon. We have no sales tax. Pony Village Mall in North Bend is the local shopping center. It is the only covered mall on the Oregon coast. Southwestern Oregon Community College of in the Coos Bay-North Bend area. Not Coquille. A town south of Bandon and they can drive there in 30 minutes? Only if they drive above the speed limit or are driving an emergency vehicle with lights flashing and siren on. This is the Bandon area and no mention of cranberry bogs, the lighthouse, the world class golf course? Or the gorse? The gorse plant fueled the 1936 fire that destroyed most of the town. Under a 1913 state law, all Oregon beaches are public. No private beaches. OK, I am being picky but I feel if real places are named, they should be accurately described.

Disappointed, not as good as book one. Lots of new characters, side stories and random drama.
The first book of the Thunder Point series was a lot stronger than this one. I found that with "The Newcomer" I struggled to keep up with the varying swaps back and forth through the various characters. While the description of the book mentions the story of Mac and Gina and how their relationship develops in lue of Mac's ex wife in coming to town, you would think that the book would be exactly about that. But not so much. Throughout the book you are worked through a serious of several swapping story lines that constantly overshadow what you think the book should be about. For example, the book continues where the first left of with Cooper and Sara and Landon. Through the novel, the story consistently comes back to Sara and Coopers relationship which is becoming strained due to a secret sara is holding. With regards to Landon, who's still dating Eve, Mac's daughter, the story also hops back to them as well and their relationship development as teenagers in a romantic relationship entering their senior year. You will also find that the novel covers more about Rawely, and develops his character and background more, as well as his working relationship and friendship with Cooper. Meanwhile, Gina's daughter Ashley is going through a major teenage crisis which dominates the entire mid section of the book and what the characters are discussing. After all of this you finally get to Mac's ex-wife arriving, which is extremely brief and barely scratches the surface of the other story lines. While all this is going (yes, there's more) we are introduced to several new characters who weave themselves into the stories as well.Needless to say, it's hard to keep up with what goes on throughout the book, there are lots of individual stories and side events that don't relate to the main story line. In the end I was left a little confused about how it was all supposed to come together. If you view the book as a series of short stories, then it won't seem so jumbled. All in all, it's entertaining but I was a little disappointed by the overabundance of side stories, characters and dialogue.

Fantastic addition to this series.
I love Robyn Carr so much that I don't even have to think twice about whether or not to download one of her books. I always know that when I do.... I'll be thoroughly entertained and very satisfied. She has never disappointed me in the past, and she hasn't disappointed me now, either. Robyn Carr has that magical touch that draws you in right from the beginning and keeps you glued to your seat until the very end. I love the way she, so effortlessly I might add, is able to weave several different stories together in the same book. In this book she touches on several different issues, including how to go about handling teenage depression, how to blend two families into one, and how to deal with meeting a elusive father for the first time ever. She also takes on the issues of the effects it has on your children, when one parent decides to abandon them for years, and also the reaction they have when she suddenly reappears again 10 years later. It also touches on a person trying to decide on their career, verses the loved ones that those choices will effect if they put their career ahead of the loved ones that could be torn apart by their decisions. I loved every single thing about this book, including the fact that we get a glimpse of the characters from the past, too.Would I recommend this book? You better believe I would, in a heart beat!!!!

Good read but not great
Really enjoyed the first book in the series, but found this one to be less absorbing. Not sure that I will rush to buy the next instalment. But a nice gentle feel good book, which was worth the time and price.

Happy reading
Pure escapism just takes a second and you are involved with the lives of these balanced sensible characters, although slightly flawed they have learnt lessons that I wish in life was for real.. and perfect men who do and say the right things.. what's not to like..

Good bedtime read
Found the whole of the series a compelling light read at bedtime - characters are threaded through all the books so you know who is who. Very much a chic read.
