Homeworld

I have been a fan of Sierra's "Homeworld" series for a long time. I played this game until my wife almost left me. The graphics were great, the controls, story, cinematics, and audio were addictive and truly first rate. I was immersed in the gameplay and the strategy for hours at a time. It's not a fast game by any means and required (at the time) a lot of my comp's resources just to run the graphics. Very cerebral and fun to play.I somehow lost my copy of the game when I moved in 1995, so I looked for it here on Amazon.I bought this game originally back in about 2000 and played it through a couple of times. I got a newer, faster comp and played "Homeworld: Cataclysm", then got "Homeworld 2" which was too much for my comp at the time. I finally built a dual core, zippy 'puter in 2009 and loaded XP on it and was finally able to play HW2. Now I can't get the original HW I just re-bought - to run.

This game has some excellent features: graphics, music and an intelligent background story. The graphics of the ships being seen from 3-D perspective is awe inspiring.What I find frustrating with this game is that I feel the player doesn't catch a break-every scenario (up to now) is "do-or-die" with battles against what seem to be ever more powerful and advanced enemies. It would have been nice to have been able to explore planets, perhaps find hidden technologies or resources to advance the game. At this point, I am losing interest with yet another battle sequence-wish there was more strategy to go along with the action.

Homeworld is wonderfully unique when it comes to space combat because the difference between success and defeat actually hinges on out of the box strategic thought.Yes one million ships will beat one thousand every time, but when you are evenly matched against an opponent or out numbered and stuck with limited resources, it takes creative thinking to come out on top. The 3D world enables you to lay ambushes for your enemy and make an attack with only a handful of ships victorious.The story has interested me greatly so far (I am only 7 or 8 levels into the game and I don't know how many levels there are total). I would recommend it, even though it is a very difficult game.

This is one of the great all time R/T Strategy games. P.C. Gamer gave it it's "Game of the Year" award in 1999. It was games like Homeworld and Half-Life that really ignited my passion for gaming. It's story-line (which today's games rarely have) is compelling and it's game play is addictive. It has some faults (remember it's 10 years old). The controls and graphics are dated and the resource gathering can be exhaustive. But, if you want a great classic game on the cheap (it really plays on XP), I recommend this game highly.

This is the second time that I have owned this game. It's always worth the price. Graphics are starting to look a little dated. But, overall it was way ahead of it's time. If you like strategy roll games with a scifi tilt, you'll love this one.

This is just like I always remembered it! Exciting & still requires your fullest attention when playing it, if you wish to succeed. I love it!

graphics are good, gameplay is fun, but really you can't really construct many things...it's not very open to the player, it's more governed by the story/Overall, I would give it a 3 out of 5

Would have loved to play it...but never got the game code for the game ...

If You Like Rts Games, Buy This One. It Has A Fantastic Story, And Although The Graphics Are A Little Behind The Times, The Gameplay Is Quite Impressive.

The disc was quite beaten up and the CD key missing. There are plenty of keys on line, and I got the disc to work witha bit of cleaning, but still..

Out of all the failed retrys of the games you'll find lots and lots of stratagy space games all made after this game (1999) but they just keep failing because this is THE best and orginal game in it's whole section of space stratagy games. If you are thinking "nah this games too old" hell no, might be 11 years old but it still gets my blood pumping.

Bought as a gift.

I am so glad I was told to get this game, it is fun, engaging and exciting. As well as unforgiving. This specific vendor got it to me surprisingly promt and in what I'd deem mint condition. However it did take me a while to figure out how to install it on newer systems, luckily there are plenty of guides. Final verdict, if you don't already own this game, BUY IT RIGHT NOW!!! You will not regret it.
