Five stars plus!!!
We absolutely LOVE this item! We purchased one unit, assembled, and decorated it. I then measured the wall, and discovered we could fit two of them and ordered a second one right away!Assembly is a bit of a task, but if you read the instructions thoroughly and keep the pieces organized, it's not too bad.The shelf has a very sturdy and heavy feel to it when assembled- the main edge support pieces are quite thick. The finish is a silver painted grain on the black, but I wasn't expecting it to look like "real" wood. I mean, where have you ever found oak that's naturally black? I anticipated some sort of painted/altered surface, so this was fine by me.These shelves are an absolutely perfect addition to our great room. I couldn't be more thrilled with the price, quality, and amazing look of this product!

PRINT picture from website to work from!
The Room Divider Shelf In Black Oak Finish by Coaster Furniture looks wonderful once you get it put together. It has stick on letters on every piece of board, so you can sort out all the "As" the "Bs" and so on. The most time-consuming part is putting dowels and little pins in each piece of board. Then you basically snap things together, and tighten the screws.HOWEVER, as many have mentioned, AND THIS IS A BIGGIE: the directions do NOT let you know that it's possible to get the individual pieces of shelving, such as the short sides of the rectangular pieces, backwards or upside down.Look at the picture as you're reading this if you can so you'll know what I'm pointing out.See the top enclosed rectangle in the unit? The rectangle that's on it's side in the top, middle of the room divider/bookcase?Note the right side of that rectangle, for example. You'll be putting that piece on well before you put on the SIDE of the bookcase, and if you'll notice the tiny, short piece of wood that connects the side of the rectangle to the long side board of the bookcase, is HIGHER than the little short piece that goes from the left end of the rectangle to the long side piece of the shelf. It's possible to put that piece of wood with the shorter piece on upside down, and it fits fine. BUT, you'll find out later there'll be no hole on the side of the book case to fit it into. You MUST look at this picture to make sure you get those pieces right because you'll be GLUING the pieces together, and THEN putting the long vertical side pieces on, which means you'll have to pull out a rubber mallet or something and knock them back apart if the holes don't line up when you try to put the sides and top on.The instructions should, ideally, have just one more photo... the one showing how all the internal parts look, put together, before the top and sides go on.Since they don't that's why it's important to use THIS photo as a reference. I didn't the first time around, and would have loved it if I had understood that from a review. That's why I gave it four stars: because I had to take pieces apart after they'd been glued-in.Once it's together, it's very sturdy, and looks good. I'm not crazy about the round, plastic pieces of tape that cover the screws, BUT, they are nearly invisible after it's all done, since they're on the sides and undersides of the shelves.Keep in mind the 'wood grain' is truly silver, and it shows if you have a lot of light. But, to my mind, it looks kind of funky and different. In low light like most living rooms, it's not really noticeable.I think you'll have fun finding things you own to fit the different sized slots, as well as putting some books in there, too.I've just ordered my second room Divider Shelf in Black oak Finish by Coaster Furniture, and feel better about the assembly process, now that I've figured out that I MUST use this photo for reference, since the instructions don't have a good one.Because there are so many small pieces, each piece of wood gets two dowels and two pins to be screwed together, it looks daunting and takes a couple of hours. But it's not difficult if you follow the photo.I hope this helps you.

Do not purchase - CROOKED
This was a HUGE waste of money and time. It says 40 minutes to assemble. It took me 5 hours. Unfortunately, at the end, the product is unstable and completely crooked. It looks ugly because of how crooked the two rectangles are. I am unfortunately going to have to throw it out as I can’t keep something so ugly and misassembled. I also don’t have more time or money to waste. I am warning you - please DO NOT PURCHASE. Nothing you do will help and your palm will have sores & pains due to terrible quality screws they provide.

Great Book Case / Piece of Art
This thing is heavy, and when assembled, it feels very sturdy. I bought an "L" bracket from Walmart to secure the top-back of the book case to my wall. This prevents the book case from wobbling back and forth (We have cats, so this was a must, since they will likely try to climb on this). I would highly recommend you perform this step. I placed the bracket behind the middle pillar in the top most row (a bit off center of the case). This is a nice spot since it nicely hides the bracket from most angles.Putting the case together took about 2 hours (opening the heavily protected package and inventorying all the parts is time consuming). It wasn't too difficult, but you must be a good detective, since the pictures are extremely important. If you miss a detail in the picture and make a wrong assumption, you could be doing a ton of re-work. Definitely higher quality than the stuff from Ikea, but the installation materials/procedure are nearly the same. You can tell more care was put into making the holes, since the pieces all fit in perfectly and the angles are all spot on. There was no unintended flexing of parts after I started tightening everything up.This book case looks really cool, though be aware, the grain on the black wood is silver... very silver. In dim light this looks really good (almost like a super-dark natural wood finish). In an extremely bright room, the silver could be distracting. We put all kinds of books, chachkies, and a few small liquor bottles (Blue Coat Gin and some mini scotches) in this case, and it looks awesome!

Good/bad
It's a very cool shelf design but it showed up with a hole busted in the side from what looked to be a forklift. I'm not one to panic and demand another so I just put that side against the wall where you can't see it.
