Great War Aviation, Vol. 23: The Fighting America Flying Boats of WWI, Vol. 2 - A Centennial Perspective on Great War Airplanes (Great War Aviation Centennial Series) (Volume 23) Paperback – September 21, 2016

The book "Fighting America Flying Boats of WW1" comes in two volumes. I would rate both as between 4 and 5 stars. The two volumes could have been two halves of the same book. Yes, you should buy both volumes. Coverage of the Curtiss America, Curtiss H-4 Porte Baby and Norman Thompson NT4 is mainly in Vol. 1. Coverage of the H-12, H-16, Felixstowe F. 1, F. 2, and F. 3 is spread over both volumes. The later boats; The F. 5/F-5-L, Aeromarine 75 and Felixstowe Fury are found in Vol. 2.At times the writing is hard to follow, but this may be the result of trying to cover a large and complex topic. The smaller Curtiss HS 1L and HS 2L are largely ignored, try to find Molson's "The Curtiss Hs Flying Boats". The book contains drawings of most of the aircraft covered, but these are not as well done as you would find in the Windsock Datafile series.

An excellent book on an obscure subject. Although I realize that many photos of that era are not the best, I believe that they could have been better produced

The quality of reference material in this is excellent and cannot be faulted. My only criticism is the quality of reproduction. I read somewhere that Aeronaut books refer to these as 'print on demand'. The paper is matt and I would say that they have been laser printed. Consequently the photos arr not as clear as they could be if they had been printed on gloss stock. This rather takes the edge of the otherwise excellent content. At £45 I would expect better quality printing.
