It's tapered only technically: "Yup, the butt is thicker than the tip." I'm going to be generous and say the makers of these just don't actually know what they are supposed to do; an actual tapered leader is about transitioning stiffness from the fly line to the delicate roll over of a tippet. The tip diameter would imply it's probably the rated test diameter. But the butt is a robust 12lb, maybe 20lb. It should be 40lb, not for strength but stiffness.Emptor Caveat. There is a reason they are priced like they are. If you are expecting even a reasonable substitute for a Rio or Scientific Anglers this will not be it. I'll take them to the lake for the kids' rods (for which they will be fine.) Kind of cute but not a real tapered leader for an experienced fly fisher..

They work fine, tie fine, turn over just fine. The perfection knots on the loops are good quality (often a problem with cheaper leaders).For the folks complaining that they're curled, welcome to nylon line memory. It's easy to fix - once it's attached to your fly line, start from the butt section and pinch it hard between your fingers while stretching it and letting your fingers slowly slide down to the tip, keeping tension on it the whole time. The combination of heat and stretching will take the curl right out of it.

Attention newbies like me: I’ve been fishing for decades, but I am new to fly fishing. Needed some leaders and figured I’m not super serious about this, why not get six leaders for the price of one or two big name leaders? Lesson learned, spend more for what is arguably one of the most important components of your rig. These have no substantial butt section, so there’s no transfer of power into the cast, and your flies end up in a pile and your leader keeps getting kinked up on itself. They’ll catch fish but are painful to use and you’ll probably have another order in for better leaders after your first outing with these. If you started with a fly rod combo (again, like me) the leader that came with it is most likely better than these. There’s a reason none of big names sell tapered leaders in a six pack.

I couldn't be happier with these leaders. I bought a 6 pack last year to try them out and I was pleasantly surprised. Some have complained that they tangle. Well, if you open them up right they won't. Just put your thumb, index and middle fingers inside the circled up leader. Keep pressure on it and start unwinding the leader. Keep pressure on the leader until it is unwound. To straighten it out just pull it between your thumb and index finger. No problem. I just bought 2 more 6 packs of 9' 5x leaders. I should be good for next year. I'll be buying more, especially at this price!

These are good quality tapered monofilament leaders, delivered fast. They are not as supple as fluorocarbon, but you can get six for the price of 1 or 2 of the fluorocarbon ones. If you are going on a once in a lifetime trip get the fluorocarbon. For your average trip get these.

I received a package of awful leaders. These leaders nested up multiple times, resulting in me cutting away and adding more tippet, only to have it happen again. I went through two in two hours of fishing. Absolute garbage! It was so frustrating. I used the same premium brand leader for the last three trips, only having to tie tippet a few times, only replacing it because it got too short. I tried these because of the price, thinking, how bad could they be? It ruined my morning of fishing, which I don’t get too many of. If you are a beginner or teaching someone to fly fish stay away as it will only frustrate and discourage someone from sticking with it. Spend the money, get good leaders.

Of course these won’t compare to high end leaders like Orvis or rio that’s why you’re getting six for almost the price of 2. The thing is: they work. I’m by no means an expert but I fly fish a lot. running your finger down them they’re a lot more uneven than the premium brands but the trout don’t seem to care much. If you want high quality leaders, go ahead and buy the expensive ones. If you just want a bunch of cheap ones that get the job done these are great. That’s why I’m on my second pack.

I like the value and the performance of these affordable but quality leaders. For a novice fly fisher like myself these are great for my pond Bass fishing. They have a low memory and the knots are solid. Also they turn over my Bass poppers and clouser minnows and have a pretty soft presentation.

I liked the product very much, they are very well made and they do the job nicely. I use these for trout fishing as they turn over the fly very smoothly, the knots are made just right. the packaging is good and they were delivered a little before expected. all in all very happy. and would buy from this vender again.Regards.B Hearn

Horrendous item. Knots fall apart the moment they are put under any form of tension (even before they get into the water). The Pre-Tied loop is useless and disintegrated on all six leaders when attaching to main fly line. Absolute waste of a tenner - do not buy these unless you expect to throw them all in the bin immediately after opening.

I have recently switched from reservoir to river fishing and require a more delicate presentation so I am hoping these will help. Time will tell, of course. My first outing was encouraging.

This is supper easy to use, perfect for stitching up open wounds like when I had to pull out one of my own teeth. You can get different sizes for different size needles.

Appear substantial and fit for purpose. Not yet tested in the heat of battle but I do not expect to find them wanting. Arrived on schedule and appropriately packaged
