Modern Triangle Quilts: 70 Graphic Triangle Blocks • 11 Bold Samplers

I’vce Made three quilts from the patterns in this book now and each time I struggled to make the blocks fit. The quilt pattern instructions are vague and therefore can only be made by experienced quilters, new quilters and even those with intermediate skills will struggle with these patterns. I cut everything extremely accurately, double-checked with the included templates, sewed with a very scant ¼” seam (checked the sewn seams numerous times), pressed extremely carefully and remeasured by blocks continuously - yet no matter what I did I couldn’t get the triangles or blocks to measure correctly. I had to alter the patterns to fit what I could achieve with the sewn triangles. I figured the issues in the first quilt may have been something I was doing wrong so I was ridiculously careful with the second and third quilts but nothing matched up regardless of how careful I was. I had my (helpful) husband triple-check everything with me and he agrees that the patterns are not correct, or that the instructions are so vague that there’s something we’re missing. As an example, the third quilt I made was Twilight - by this time I knew the patterns wouldn’t match up to real-life quilting but I pushed on regardless, determined to make it work this time. I could not get the flying geese blocks to measure 6 ¼’ x 11 ¾”, despite being painstakingly precise with every single step. The best I could get was 6 ⅛” x 11 ½ - 11 ⅝”, despite sewing with a seam smaller than a scant ¼” and being fastidious about every single cut, triple-checking sizing at every stage, etc. I have sewn several triangle quilts previously and never had this issue. If you’re new to quilting and try to make a quilt from this book you’ll either never sew with triangles again or you’ll give up quilting entirely. I will not make another quilt from this book because the frustration involved isn’t worth it. The author’s design ideas are great but and she designed some excellent looking quilts but her skills in writing patterns are a little lackluster. It’s not enough to make pretty quilts in pretty colors if the people that buy the book can’t reproduce them accurately. I’m so annoyed at the frustration I’ve experienced trying to make the quilts in this book. I’m giving three stars for the design and ideas alone.

I really don’t know what this book is supposed to be. I purchased it specifically for the Wake quilt pattern. There is no pattern in the book. There are directions on how to make different blocks and some fabric yardage listed. But a lot is missing. There is no yardage for the white fabrics and a lot of the measurements are inaccurate. When I cut given measurements and sew them they do not add up to the required length given for the length of the triangle. I have been quilting for 19 years, so I am not a beginner. I think the author wanted to teach quilting skills but didn’t test measurements, or think to put an actual pattern in the book. I do not recommend this book.

This book is sort of like Tula Pink's Modern Sampler book, but for triangles instead of squares. I have always enjoyed making triangle shaped quilt blocks and purchased this book when I spotted it because it offers some unique but amazingly simple triangle block possibilities, plus even more inspiration to make up your own blocks (especially those that use up your fabric scrap stash). It also includes some different, interesting layout ideas for putting all of those awesome triangles quilt blocks together to make a quilt. When you consider that you can make any of these triangle blocks in any size yet (not to mention use the same ideas for all the different degree triangles, the possibilities become endless. (I've already made about eight triangle blocks inspired by the ideas in this book. I'm making large triangles so it won't take many to make up a quilt. Fun and addictive!)

If you are interested in trying improv, then this is a great book. I read one review that said the measurements were not accurate and the directions not good. First, I always cut my pieces oversized. Also this is an Improv book. It has great ideas. You can make the triangles like the author does or change them up a bit. You can do your own thing with her guidance. I love this book and look forward to trying all her patterns plus changing things to make my own.

The concept of a book based on triangle quilts is awesome. All of the different blocks are interesting and fun to put together. Great instructions and inspirations. I have already made a few blocks from this book and I just got it. There is also a lot of extra information and fun quilt a longs by Bryan House Quilts online that are an accompaniment to this book.

It can be confusing. The paper insert helps. But it’s a pretty good book of ideas, you just have to figure a few things out on your own ;)

What a nice book !! There are paper piecing patterns for the triangles, some have a lot of pieces and some don't. And that's good !! One of the patterns in the book brought to mind fish when I saw it. The author did a great job with the patterns and ideas in this book.

Excellent and very detailed instructions on about every type of triangle you would want.

Bought as a Xmas gift for my wife who was exceptionally delighted to receive it, telling me how useful it would be.

Very basic good for a behinner

Ganz tolles Buch mit vielen tollen Quilts und Verarbeitungsbeispielen.Wer allerdings schon 10000 Ufos im Schrank hat, sollte die Finger davon lassen. Denn nach der Lektüre dieses Buches hat man mit Sicherheit noch einige Projekte mehr ! :D

Fürchten ist es einumwerfendes Buch. Die Vielfalt nimmt kaum ein Ende. Ein Block ist schöner als der Andere. Hier können sämtliche Dreieckswünsche in Erfüllung gehen.
