I did not see it coming.The actors did their job, and the cinematography is on point.Yes Sharon is older as so many have stated, however she knows how to play sexy, simply because she is Diva!Her leading man played his character extremely well.I watch many British films, and this movie is packed with well known British film stars.In my opinion this movie is better than the original because the actors work as a team to take you on a sensual journey . The twist at the end is like"your best flavored filling in the middle of a chunk of chocolate" ### ⭐⭐⭐ Less a Sequel than a Knock-Off *by J***L on Reviewed in the United States on May 29, 2019* “Basic Instinct 2” is terrible, yes, but it’s a gloriously entertaining terrible. In all fairness, for a past-its-sell-by-date sequel featuring a past-her-prime star, “Basic Instinct 2” is far better than it has any right to be. Director Michael Caton-Jones does what he can to make the movie look classy, though I don’t know if it’s a good idea for an erotic thriller to spend more time in offices than bedrooms. Then again, when your leading man has the sexual magnetism of a desk chair, maybe that makes perfect sense.Of course, we’re not meant to focus on the directing or the leading man’s sex appeal (or lack thereof). Even the movie’s plot doesn’t matter. By 2006 this movie had only one reason to exist: to show that Sharon Stone, on the cusp of 50 when she made this, still had it!People often slam Stone’s acting, but I think that’s unfair. I put her on the same talent-level as Demi Moore: not as good as she thinks she is, but better than people give her credit for. But unlike Moore, Stone knows when to camp it up, and she goes for broke reprising her role as Catherine Tramell in “BI2.” You can tell Stone savors every line of outrageous dialog she utters, tingles at the feel of every sexy costume draped over her bra-less breasts. “BI2” is her showcase, but even she doesn’t take it that seriously.But while Stone treats her character as a joke, she takes herself *very* seriously and wants everyone else to do the same. Characters are constantly mentioning how beautiful, sexy and brilliant Catherine (i.e., Stone) is, and there are more than a few moments when characters gasp when she enters a room, her beauty and sexiness rendering them speechless. And how else to explain the casting of David Morrissey, as the psychiatrist with whom Catherine matches wits? Though his performance is competent, Morrissey isn’t exactly a hunka burnin’ love. (It should be noted that he doesn’t look bad undressed, so there’s that). Stone reportedly turned down Benjamin Bratt for the male lead because she didn’t think he was good actor. Um, OK, if she says so. I’m sure it had nothing to do with her not wanting play opposite another charismatic screen presence who might draw the teensiest bit of attention away from the awesomeness that is Sharon Stone.The only actor in this movie to challenge Stone’s scenery-chewing is David Thewlis, as the detective who “wants that [rhymes with runt] in jail!” Charlotte Rampling (I know, right?) is also on hand, and while she turns in a relatively dignified performance there are many scenes in which she appears to be fighting back a giggling fit. Also look for Indira (“Game of Thrones”) Varma in a small role.“BI2” is less a sequel than a knock-off, having more in common with the “Basic Instinct” copycats that flooded video stores in the 1990s than with the original film. In fact, change a couple character names and make the movie’s one-time subtitle “Risk Addiction” the main title and you’d have the best Shannon Tweed erotic thriller not starring Shannon Tweed. Making the movie in 1996 instead of 2006 might have helped, too. Instead, “BI2” is too much, too late, too bad—and too awesome for fans of camp cinema to pass up. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great Way to Pass the Afternoon...For Intelligent Grown-Ups *by A***R on Reviewed in the United States on November 8, 2016* Sharon Stone's comeback as feminist powerhouse mystery author Miss Katherine Trumell really, really delivers exactly what Sharon Stone (particularly Basic Instinct I) fan's have come to expect. Nothing but non-stop thrills, laugh out loud, dry, quippy dialogues, fast sports cars, a lot of sexuality in terms of special effects, wardrobe and use of adult language in the script. Critically speaking it is of course not the shocker of Basic Instinct I, but that was 23 years ago. Sharon Stone's performing does stand up to the test of time though, but like the majority of Hollywood sequels, particularly highly anticipated ones...this one did not include any of the supporting cast. However it was pretty highly charged.
