Architecture: A Very Short Introduction

Very insightful!
A fine introduction to architecture, and yet much more. Professor Ballantyne eschews the predictable names and dates to discuss the major themes and motives behind the world's finest examples of architecture. I devoured the book in a few hours.

A genuinely good introduction to architectural theory
Ballantyne is probably one of the best contemporary teachers and theorists of architectural theory and philosophy I have come across. He writes with a rare lucidity and creativity that often gets very difficult concepts across as moderately difficult or even easy. This VSI is beautifully conceived and executed like the majority of other Oxford VSIs. Plenty of quality images support the text, and the book is itself an anecdotal introduction to architectural theory. Laypeople and beginners would have no difficulty approaching and comprehending this book.

which the book does brilliantly.
A book of very high quality and content. It's very hard to explain something excuiste and interesting of what has been discussed since ages, which the book does brilliantly.
