Q: Can you cut just the center of a leather strip leaving the two ends uncut and still connected? For doing braided straps?Does that make sense?

I have this, and there are many ways to use it, if you want just the center cut for braids just take out the outside blades and leave the middle blades in, I use it when cutting leather for mystery braids and it works great :-) One of my best investments and it beats cutting by hand !

I'd say it definitely would work fine, my wife made her regalia for pow wow. It's Made of 1/4 in thick leather and has lace the length of the arms legs. Back front and bottom all cut with this tool.

Hello, This works with thin leathers or 2 5 oz. thickness. 5 oz. is pushing the limits.

Q: How long can this Cut fringes ?

I cut a lot of garment weight (3-4 oz.) elk. If that is the type of leather you are cutting fringe from, save your money! If you are cutting latigo or some type heavy leather it will work just fine. The length will be determined only by how long you cut the piece you wish to make fringe from.
