This is a game changer!
This is truly a remarkable product! I originally got one for my daughter when she entered college to help her take notes during lectures and I was so impressed I got a second one for myself. As a physician, I go to a lot of medical lectures and presentations. This system enables me to record the lecture and take notes which link the recording to the written note. The notes and the recording are transferable to your computer or laptop go back at any time and review your notes and play back portion of the lecture which was taking place as you were writing the note. The note pads are proprietary but not unreasonably priced. If you have the need to take notes during any type of lectures or presentations this will truly be a game changer for you.

Livescribe might change the way you study.
I've used Livescribe pens/notebooks/workflows for years and would have loved then as a student in college. I consider the Livescribe "experience" more a study system than just a smart pen. You might want to watch videos on the Lightscribe or ask a longterm user (unfortunately somewhat rare) before considering this product. I wish Lightscribe offer mini courses on the many ways these can be part of a efficient workflow. Over the years I have developed several different workflows for my various interests. The pen is of excellent build quality and with some effort at the beginning, easy to use. I have a pen that still works after a decade's use. Amazing once you grok the product.

Garbage product matched by their crappy support
Crappy hardware, unusable software and absolutely terrible support! I have been a Livescribe user for 15 years with multiple Pulse, Echo and one Echo 2 pen. The old pens worked great, but had common problems with the dimming OLED display and eventually their batteries don't hold charge for more than 15-20 minutes after years of use. So I purchased Echo 2 pen expecting the same great experience that I have with older models. What a mistake! The new Livescribe+ software crashes constantly, the UI is total mess and it is slower than Windows 3.11 It is literally unusable to a point where I had to wait over 5 minutes to switch between pages. Whoever has designed this new software is totally incompetent because it is 100x times worse than the old Livescribe Desktop. If you are expecting anything at all from this garbage, leave your hopes behind. Then the camera on this pen has failed after 9 months of use in the office environment. It still can start recording the audio if I press the power button, but no pen strokes are recorded at all. I have contacted Anoto's customer support requesting a replacement, since the pen was still under warranty. They have given me every excuse possible, dragged this process on for 2 months and eventually just stopped replying to my emails. No replacement, not even a hint of an apology for the crap they sell. Subsequently, I have uninstalled this piece of garbage, threw the new pen in the trash and went back to my old Echo pen with a weak battery. I have purchased a small Lithium Ion power bank and keep it connected to the pen with a soft USB cable, when writing my notes. Not ideal, but at least I can have good useful notes and a pen that still works after 10 years. My advice to anyone considering Echo 2 pen - stay away from this crap, you will not find it anything even close to the old Livescribe products in both the quality and the usability.

Close But Not There Yet 😖
So I've been a user of Livescribe pens for years. I purchased the original Pulse SmartPen which is one of my all time favorite out of all the pens made. The original pen was sturdy, made of metal and featured an LED display. It talked and you could play tunes and playback recordings right from the pen. These features aren't available with some of the newer pens. The drawback was the digital display failed and became unreadable. I then purchased the LiveScribe 3 Smartpen which introduced wireless and Bluetooth features. A cap covered the USB port keeping dust and debris from getting inside. The pen was made of weak plastic and it cracked not long after I purchased it. The cap would not stay on and it was a bit buggy to use. Then, I purchased the LiveScribe (Aegir). This pen is made of a harder resin or metal to my delight. The cap was a much better fit but the USB port was left unprotected. I can't remember if i had issues with this pen and its features - per-say other than it didn't talk or playback recordings audibly. The Livescribe + app was a gamechanger. Finally I purchased the newer Echo 2 Smartpen. The OLED display is baaack! The audible replay feature is back! It has so many features its almost like old times! I did have minor issues with connecting the pen to my smartphone but it works fine now. The problem is the damn cap! The pen itself feels like it's made of a plastic or resin material. The cap is made of a much weaker plastic. It cracked and won't stay on the pen. And the USB port is left exposed. It's a USB-C port which is double awesome but it's still exposed. Aside from the esthetics, the pen works well. You can write on paper and watch it instantly appear on your tablet or smartphone. It writes smooth - as did all the other pens and the shape of the pen makes it easier to hold. I just wish we could get the pen 🖊 made of a sturdier material or at least make a cap that will stay on and not crack. The Aegir has the best designed pen cap. I still have reservations about thr exposed USB-C port. I think it should be protrcted from dirt and debris. (I'll upload a photo of my pens together in a bit). Overall, this is a good buy for the price. If you're a business person or artsy like myself. You'll need a Smartpen.

Pen died after 1 month and no help from Livescribe Support
I love the Livescribe products and have used them since 2010. However, this is my 3rd pen. I agree that it is easier to hold and does a great job in transcribing. However, I use it teaching an online math course. I am teaching a new course this time and was working hard to get all of the lessons recorded and updated to the learning management system we use at my university. I used the pen a lot in the first month I had it and thankfully was able to return it to Amazon in the nick of time. I had 1 day to get it returned. I will order another one so I can complete the lessons for my course. With that said, I have twice reached out to Livescribe for help and they did not want to replace my pen. They wanted me to do all this technical stuff on my computer and send them files from my computer. I don't like that and when I sent them the email I included screenshots of the issues. My pen would upload the audio fine but when you tried to sync the audio on a Mac to the video file, it would say that the audio wasn't available. It was because I could click on it on my Mac and listen to it but it would never sync so the mp4 file could be used. The previous pen was the Symphony model and I loved it because you could upload the file as a PDF and the students could click ont he Livescribe player which carried them directly to the lesson. However, when I had an issue with it after using it for 2 years, because the warranty was out, they made a few suggestions and I tried them but the pen was still making stray marks all over the page. That's when I decided to buy the Echo 2 pen. This pen is much more difficult to get the pencast into a format usable by students. Livescribe needs to work on its tech support and they need to stand by their product. Of course, my pen quit 1 day before the deadline for returning it to Amazon. I plan to email back support and let them know how unhappy I am with that portion of the company. Livescribe no longer owns the company but sold it to Anoto which is the company that developed the dot paper for the pen originally so I'm sure they don't have a lot of interest into putting anything into the product. As I said, when the pen works, it works great.

Gift for autistic grandson
The community college suggested that my grandson get one of these pens to use for his college courses in order to keep up. He has told me that it works well. Special notebooks are required and other reviewers suggested having refills always on hand so I bought both of those items for him too. A word of advice if ordering refills, make sure that you read all information so that you get the correct one, as the first ones I ordered said that they would work with his pen, but did not. My grandson's handwriting is atrocious, so I really don't know how well this system works, but he says that it has, which is why I give it five stars.

Very happy
I've had Livescribe Echo Pens for many years! They all worked great but felt pretty big and clunky. As my third Echo was "dying," I thought that I should change to something more "modern," like writing on my iPad. I also thought that the Livescribe technology might be getting old. BUT, I was so comfortable with using the Echo, not to mention that it was a habit. I'm so glad that I looked into the read the new Livescribe Echo 2 Smartpen. The pc/mobile integration is definitely new and improved! My pen syncs amazingly well with both my PC and iPhone. Plus, it's very comfortable to use. The big bonus for me it that it let's me keep using the "system" for writing down notes and reminders that has worked so well for me for such a long time. I definitely recommend that you check out the Livescribe Echo 2 Smartpen!
