I'd imagine these are much lighter than standard asaltos. Is that a problem?

No, it's not a problem. My husband is the asalto player. The cork ones are not his favorite, but they do have a nice sound.

I'm confused by the size options. Is that the diameter of the ball? If so, I have small hands then the smallest size is best?

These are not fully silent, however they are not as loud as traditional asalato designs. They are substantially more quiet and do not have a piercing crack or snap sound that tends to travel through rooms as traditional asalato do. They are intended for practice use. The beads inside have a slightly higher timbre than I expected, and that is where most of the sound comes from over the clacking together of the cork shells. I recommend this product as a practice alternative. Perhaps if you could shut yourself in a room or be on another floor of the house, etc then these would be a good "silent" pair of asalato. Agradables al tacto
