Fitting if imperfect finale.
Class 2-A is dwindling and the survivors are facing longer odds and growing depravity as their will to live is placed against their personal beliefs. And who is the mysterious votekeeper running this deadly game? This is the final volume of Tohyo Game, a psychological horror story, so starting here is pretty pointless. Read from the beginning.I’ll be sharing general thoughts on the series here, so while I’ll be as spoiler free for the entire three volumes as possible for plot details, I will be talking about my general impressions of the series’ strengths and weaknesses.I have mixed feelings about this finale. It’s good, keeps the tension high, and has plenty of surprises left to dish out. It also starts to suffer from “one twist too many” syndrome, leaves some major questions largely unexplained, and feels a little rushed. More context regarding certain things and more room for the story to breathe would have been appreciated.Still, this volume provides the expected escalating stakes and continued clever twists on the voting and there is closure to the main story thread started in volume 1. The lack of details about a related, underlying plot point is somewhat unsatisfying, and to be honest I wanted something different, overall but within the established framework this is a logical, valid conclusion. The bombshells dropped last volume are resolved in intriguing ways. There are interesting character moments as everyone reacts to things getting more dire, and the atmosphere is appropriately harrowing as events escalate to even more disturbing levels. On a related note, the series has been getting more and more graphic in all ways as it progresses, so if the first was too much too handle it won’t get any better in that respect. With this volume Tohyo Game comes to a reasonably strong but imperfect end. It remained exactly as advertised throughout: a twisted, compelling suspense story filled with surprises, shocks, and graphic content. There are more questions than answers though, and that holds it back just a bit.One side note I’ll mention: There’s an… odd “bonus” afterward that’s a few pages long and is nothing but fanservice and is even referred to later in the afterward with a comment that implies it exists because one of the creators wanted a couple of the characters drawn naked. I have no problem with fanservice or pinup art, and the nudity certainly isn’t at odds with the graphic nature of the series, but the context given here in the guise of “humor” IS inconsistent with the characters and tone of the series and is also uncomfortable (one line in particular is pretty much what’s making me write this). I was going to ignore it without comment (as I often do for random extras like this), but figured it was worth a heads up for those who may wish to stop reading when the actually story ends as this has nothing to do with the rest of the manga.

Not a keeper in my collection, but definitely a page-turner!
So what is there to say about Tohyo Game...I picked it up because I enjoy stories with random killing and violence.Seemed along the lines of Another, which was a lot of fun. A little Battle Royale, you can't go wrong with that. A little Dangan Ronpa? I'm sold.I wasn't looking for originality or innovation, but FUN.Volume 1 started slow, and I gotta say the artwork can be pretty rough. But once the deaths started, I was happy. Happy enough to immediately order volume 2 and then after that to order volume 3.But let's be clear, in Volume 2, I knew I was going to be re-selling this manga once I finished it.It's kind of a vapid guilty pleasure that I don't see having any real staying power, something you enjoy in the moment and forget about after. But I HAD to finish it. If this was longer than a few volumes, I wouldn't have stuck with it. But the deaths were neat and the twists were fun enough to keep me guessing. It's not original, the artwork is rough, the characters are unlikable, and in this volume, the story got kinda cringe-worthy and produced several exasperated exclamations of "really?!"One of the characters is supposed to be a nasty rapey guy, so you're not supposed to like him, but I found him threatening a girl by saying he was gonna f*** her really disgusting. I think my biggest gripe about this series is the extremely poor taste and the feel that the artists and writers were very lascivious and into sexual violence and random teenage girl nudity. :-/ It's a little over the top and very eye-roll inducing. I came here for the deaths, and the deaths are GOOD and had me cackling aloud several times, which concerned my boyfriend a little. :)The manga is a little too pervy, and I'm no prude, I enjoy a good smutty manga, but not blatant fanservicey type which takes you out of the story completely as you picture a drooling dude drawing the page and going "oh yeah, look at those sweet 15 year old t***"So, if that type of stuff won't keep you from overall enjoying of a nice story about random violent deaths, borrow these books if you can, I wouldn't recommend dropping the $36 or so for it. It's a quick read, it's a page-turner, and the fact that all of the characters are unlikable will make you enjoy the sweet deaths even more! <3

The kindle version works now!
This book was crazy. It was jammed pack with murder, dead eyes, and satisfying turns. It was so much fun. I loved how one girl kept sabotaging herself. The characters were able to be developed more since their were so few of them, and the pacing kept the story from getting boring. I'm satisfied that with how it ended, the character I didn't want to live died and there's room for a sequel series. Just a warning, there's a mention of incest but it's not shown or talked about. Not sure if this is a series I'll ever reread, but it was a fun ride.

10/10
One of the strangest stories ever, gruesome and horrifying. Absolutely amazing ! The artwork really shows what the characters are feeling. Would not recommend for those who don't like very very dark stories. Ended in a very satisfying way !

Eh
Ending felt rushed imo, felt like more could've been done. 1 and 2, were great, but 3 was a disappointment.

Can't read it
Contains only three pages, all blank, in the Kindle reader on multiple platforms. Reported this to Amazon and Yen on social media in April and not been fixed yet.
