Solid introduction to understanding the book publishing industry
The title clearly states that this is an introduction to the publishing world. For those who want to work in the industry but have little experience except as writers or copyeditors, this book provides a solid introduction to the work performed by core positions in the book publishing industry: editors, marketers, and writers. Agent work is not covered, though they are mentioned liberally throughout. Business and Legal are given attention in their own chapters--a plus--and I appreciated the examples, stories, and references that the authors provided throughout the book. I recommend this for people interested in working in publishing or soon-to-be authors who want to understand the book publishing world with more detail.

The book is certainly not for professionals
I am deeply disappointed. From the book named "The Professionals' Guide..." I expected the process to be described in a much more solid manner, with all the possible options to choose from. The information provided is very simplistic and the book would be better named "The Lay Public's Guide..."
