Looks quite discrete when mounted (I used command strips, but screws and rawplugs are provided). Based on an optical sensor not the older radiation source/alpha particle ones, but, weirdly, still have an expiration date....not sure an LED or optocoupler has a half life but what do I know!? Is this a ploy just to keep you buying new ones in the future!? Anyway, runs on two AA batteries (supplied) which is great, apparently last around 5 years but I can't validate that, they are easy to change in any case. The alarm is pretty loud too. I've found that sometimes steam from the bathroom can trigger mine in the hallway so they seem sensitive, but I think thats a good thing.
