If you are investing in truffles..invest in this slicer.
What a great slicer. I was able to shave my black truffles tables side into the clients soup. Not only is it easy to use, you can adjust the blade for thinner or thicker slices. It is stainless steel(very sturdy) for easy cleaning..but a sharp as can be so you will need to pay attention to using this, but I would suggest this to anyone in need of the product.I am a professional chef..trust me on this..it is the only slicer you will need!

great product. works as described and it is a sharp tool. The first Time, I sliced my third finger so must be careful but truffles come out perfectly sliced!

Excellent craftsmanship; best for Winter black and white truffles
I used this for a 1 oz. tuber uncinatum or Burgundy truffle that I purchased from Urbani. Since the flavor of Summer and Burgundy truffles is more muted and increases with some heat, grating with a microplane grater is recommended as opposed to using a truffle slicer. The finely grated shavings of a microplane isolate and increase the surface area of truffle flavor. Thus, this excellent slicer is recommended only for the stronger scented and flavored white truffles and black Winter truffles. I used it for cheese, as well, and it sliced very well.

Not great with mushrooms
I purchase to thin slice mushrooms. I wanted and was hoping to get a serrated blade. Photos show both serrated and strait. Mine came with strait blade. I have honestly never cut a truffle so maybe they cut/slice easier? The blade is not very sharp and only provided good slices on about half a mushroom while jamming or crumbling at least half of each mushroom. Truffles are out of my price range but I would be pissed if it sliced truffles this poorly.

No-Fear Gear
I always feared using my killer-sharp mandolin; and I wasn't too keen about my box grater, either. Now I can face either one without slicing my fingers. These gloves are wisely snug (be sure to measure your hand around the knuckles to get the right fit). I wish they were a bit longer (they barely cover my wrists), but that's a small, almost irrelevant issue.

Quite a step up from my current truffle shavers ...
I have a small collection of truffle slicers, some that I've even been able to purchase at truffle festivals throughout Piemonte region in northern Italy. But this Urbani shaver is in another class altogether. I was finally able to shave razor thin truffle slices that really bring out that aroma and flavor that leaves us speechless. It's well worth the few extra bucks for the ultimate truffle experience, and allows for a truffle to go further around the table. Very happy indeed. Thank you.

Excellent Product
This product works perfectly on both slicing truffles and garlic. Some other reviews have mentioned the adjust screw is hard to turn. I almost passed on this item because of those and I'm glad I didn't. The adjustment screw is indeed firm but turns smoothly, I think that is for a reason. Only about one full turn is needed to take the blade from closed to fully open. I suspect those people, or perhaps someone who returned the product prior to them, over-torqued the screw and damaged it.This is not a miniature mandolin. The range of the blade movement is minimal. If I somehow eat enough truffles to dull this, I'd happily buy again.

not a real bargain
I was very disappointed. When it arrived it looked and felt very cheap, not at all what I expected, It says it's easily adjustable but it takes a pair of plyers to move the adjusting screw. The adjuster only adjusts one side so the slices are thicker on one side and thin on the other. No instructions came with it so I don't even know if I am doing it right. It only slices about halfway through a clove of garlic before it plugs right up. Certainly not worth close to thirty dollars.
