Saunders writes about relatable events in children's lives. She uses every opportunity to teach and expand language for young learners through her playful use of synonyms, labeled pictures, written/illustrated plans to solve problems, diagrams, story maps and fun participation pages. The illustrations are lively and bright, inviting children to engage with the text.Uh-Oh...Phew! is particularly great for deaf/hard of hearing children and their typically hearing peers or siblings. Until recently, there has been an absence of really good books specifically for children with hearing loss. The ones by Tanya Saunders are some of the best I've seen.
