This means that you cannot make the clock read something a real clock would not. For example, putting the hour hand directly over 9 and the minute hand over 6. Instead you have to move the minute hand round and round to read the time you want, just like setting the time on a real clock. It also gives kids an understanding of the relationship between the two hands and how they move at different speeds.
