I've owned this device for 10 days now. I purchased it because of 1) the price and 2) the high praise it had received elsewhere on the net.Unfortunately for me, it has worked a total of ten minutes. You heard correctly, 10 minutes, if that long.I received the item from Amazon on Friday afternoon (7/15). I installed the software that came on the disk on Monday (7/18). From the start, the installation told me that one of the .dlls installed from the disk was not meant to work with Windows and that I should contact someone for help.Being an enterprising person, I went to the Topscan site and downloaded the updated software and installed it. Everything seemed to install correctly. I was able to open the software application. I was able to connect the device and I thought: "This is good!"Unfortunately, when I tried to actually scan something into a Word document, all I kept getting was a message that the device reported an error. It didn't even scan an image of what I was trying to copy!At that point, I contacted the support people at Topscan. To their credit, someone did contact me trying to get more information to troubleshoot my problem the same day.In the interim, I restored my system to a point before I had installed the software from the disk accompanying the scanner and had installed the new (downloaded) software and at that point, the scanner worked for a bit, until I disconnected it from the USB port. You see, I was traveling and only had 3 USB ports available. So, I made the fatal mistake of disconnecting the ScanMarker device from the USB port that it had been connected to.A day later, I in my naivette, I plugged the device back into a USB port again expecting that it would work. Much to my chagrin, the only thing that worked was the error message telling me the device reported an error. This was early on Friday (7/22) and I reported the problem with the ScanMarker device. This timeI made sure to send the supporting information that support had requested earlier. Today is 7/25 and I have not heard from anyone at TopScan support.Needless to say, I am sending this item back to Amazon. I am not spending $80 for a piece of useless equipment. I am going to purchase a competitor's product.In case you are interested, this item was installed on a HP dv4 notebook with Windows 7, 64-bit OS and 4 GB of installed RAM. The drivers do not report a problem on the device manager.************************************************************************************************Update on review 8/1/11It took a couple of weeks butthe support people at Topscan worked on my problem and fixed it. As it turns out, the CD shipped with the product was defective and it corrupted the driver for the scanner. Deleting the installation and re-installing the updated software did not fix the problem.Through the persistence of the person in support I worked with (yes, during the whole time I worked with a single individual. How neat is that?)they were able to get a solution for me. It entailed deleting the driver from the Device Manager and reinstalling it manually. Since then, I've had no problems with the scanner.I give Topscan the company five stars for their top-notch support. Note that they are shipping updated CDs to all their resellers.So why only 4 stars? Because the scanner itself still seems to have some problems with character recognition. It could be "pilot error" in my handling of it. But it is seems to be quite picky about the speed that is used and the kind of contrast that the page being scanned has as well as the type.I use it for capturing material resulting from research to be used in papers and other written materials and would like to have 100% accuracy. Maybe that is not possible, however, I do think there is some room for improvement in the results I am getting. That is why only 4 stars.

Awesome. Works perfectly. Using the Blue Tooth connection to my cell phone and earphones I can read the menu without disturbing others. The phone remains in my pocket and I use the ScanMarker like a pen to scan the menu. It translates over 50 languages, both ways. I could read a French menu and it translates to English in my ears!!! What a deal. Did not have high expectations when I ordered it but things have come a long way from Kurtswell and his first machines. This is worth every penny to a near blind person. I only need to see well enough to know where the lines are to scan.

The software hasn’t been updated in a long time. Can’t seem to figure out how it’s supposed to read out loud to you while you scan. This pen requires an app witch doesn’t work as well on a smart phone. Otherwise great for taking notes.

Unable to use it , I can not navigate the instructions, ,I need a way to talk to somebody who can explain how to use this instrunent

I bought this product in January 2012, but it is not working upto now Feb 12. I followed evey instruction that is mentioned in the manual but still not working. i sent an e-mail to [email protected] about a week ago, but no reply. i just need to send this thing back but i don't know how to do that.PLEASE DON'T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE THAT I DID IN BUYING THIS THING!!!!!!!!!!!. i have to say that its not worth the money that i paid for. its better to write the actual stuff that you need to write than using this product. this product is a waste of time and money. I hate it and have stopped using it.

Bought mine in early 2013 and initially had trouble getting it to work consistently on my Mac and was pretty frustrated with it, having had crappy customer service experience at a majority of companies (you know what I'm talking about), I was really not all that motivated to get in touch with customer service and wait on hold for 20+ mins and then struggle for the next hour+ to understand someone reading from a script with answers that don't actually answer my questions. I HATE calling customer service and explaining a problem the customer service agent clearly doesn't understand what you're saying, but they THINK they do and they just basically keep repeating the same information to solve the problem they think you have. Sometimes, if you're lucky the 6th or 7th time you explain it differently from your prior explanations, the light bulb turns on and you can get your actual problem fixed!:) I thoroughly exhausted all of my resources (researched online for hours, asked several friends/family, technology help desk at my University, even eventually had Geek Squad uninstall the program and then re-install it in my Mac, before I finally admitted defeat and emailed the company for help.I gotta admit, I was kicking myself for DAYS after contacting customer service; I waited waaaay longer (almost a year) than I should have to email Scanmarker for help. Customer service was surprisingly prompt, friendly, and very, very helpful. Yes, customer service is in Israel, don't let that deter you (like it did me) though! Hear me out... *Email them through the company webpage (I filled out the form on the contact us page) and they will reply to you within a reasonable time (21 hours for me); *then they will set up a good time for you to have customer service call you. *They will call at the time you request, so be ready!The gentleman who called and helped walk me through my issues was very friendly and very knowledgeable. Regrettably, I forget his name now, but he was one of the best, (if not the best) customer service agents/employees I have ever dealt with. I could not believe how much time (it did take some time to trouble shoot, but it was painless, I promise!) he took to help me narrow down the cause of my problem and I never had trouble understanding what he was telling me and he was able to answer questions I asked and understood what I was telling him and asking him.I have absolutely nothing negative to say about this company, the employees, or the Scanmarker itself (once I got it working properly).I do not work for Scanmarker, I am just a very happy customer who has taken too long to write a review after a pleasantly surprising experience. I definitely recommend buying the Scanmarker and the software updates have improved the technology and added features to the Scanmarker since I first bought mine and I am so happy I bought it and even happier that I finally broke down and emailed customer service for help. Had I known they would be so helpful, I would have emailed them within a week of figuring out I was doing something wrong rather than putting it off for almost a year:/I got on Amazon trying to look for any reviews on the Scanmarker Air (I plan to buy in the future, but I always check multiple sources before purchasing electronics/technology) I am very interested in the scanning to my phone capability:) and the cordless would be awesome as long as it doesn't eat batteries like crazy... so if anyone happens to know about the Air version and how it does on batteries let me know please!:)

Funktionalität des Gerätes in Verbindung mit der Software: Note (noch) gut - 2,4: Leichte Abstriche bei der Genauigkeit , speziell beim Scan dicht beschriebener Zeilen.WICHTIGER TIPP: Gerät/Software erfordern eine Online-Registrierung mit Code. Wenn man diesen Erfasst hat, sollte man die Eingabe-Maske mit dem Code unbedingt mal ausdrucken und sichern. Wirft man die Packung weg oder den Zettel, wird es schwierig, wenn man das Gerät mal mit einem neuen Lappi/PC verbinden will, weil dann stets die Registrierung wiederholt werden muss.Bis zu guten Ergebnissen braucht es eine (allerdings überschaubare) Eingewöhnungszeit, das Gerät meldet gerne mal, dass man zu langsam gescannt hat, scannt man dann schneller, ist das Ergebnis zwar da, aber gelegentlich fehlerhat. Man braucht eine ruhige Hand, um die Zeile/en gerade zu erfassen, dann klappts auch. Optimal wäre eine bessere Fixier-Kennung oder eine Mini-LED um bei der breiten Auflage genauer zu sehen, ob der Sensor genau über der Erfassungszeile liegt.Die Software verfügt über 4 Scan-Modi (Text, Zahlen, Strichcode, Bilder), sowie eine -meinem Eindruck nach recht gute - Übersertzungssoftware. Man scannt den vorh. Text und wählt hierbei die Zielsprache - Von Deutsch nach Englisch lieferte gute Resultate, Französisch 3 kleine Aussetzer auf 3/4-DinA4 Seite, andere Sprachen noch nicht getestet. Zudem gibts noch ein Einstellungsmenü mit Tipps, Übungen und Tools. Bei alledem ist die Software übersichtlich, selbst erklärend und dabei gut verständlich. Da gibt es nix zu meckern.Was mich nervös macht:Die Verarbeitung ! Der Pen liegt gut in der Hand, vermittelt aber durch das teils recht dünn wirkende Plastik, spziell vorne an dem "Klick-Sensor", dass ein schon einmaliges Herunterfallen aus Schreibtisch-Höhe das Ende des immerhin ca. 80 Euro teuren Gerätes bedeuten könnte. Insbesondere bei den beiden Auflage-Enden des vorderen Sensors habe ich immer den unterschwelligen Eindruck, nicht zu doll aufdrücken zu dürfen, damit diese nicht abbrechen- ausgerechnet die Leseeinheit. Der Hersteller denkt vermutlich ähnlich, die Abdeck-Kappe bei Nicht-Gebrauch sollte tatsächlich auch aufgesetzt werden. Beispielsweise der Transport in einer vollen Aktentasche, ohne Kappe drauf, könnte schon zum Problem werden. Hier wäre etwas stabileres Wertigkeitsempfinden / Material wünschenswert.Gesamteindruck. Funktion noch gut, Software gut bis sehr gut, Material/Haptik befriedigend.

Produit bien fini, logiciel pratique.La reconnaissance de caractères est bonne sur les textes de bonne qualité, même de petite taille (livres en bon état ou courrier). Par contre Pour les caractères en italiques de petite taille, un bon résultat est difficile à obtenir. Un Cpen fait un peu mieux (et un peu plus vite pour un prix un peu plus élevé) mais ne semble plus être disponible.La vitesse de reconnaissance est bonne.L'apprentissage est nécessaire : en effet il faut scanner rapidement et le plus droit possible pour avoir un bon taux de reconnaissance.Les fonctions annexes: traduction et vocalisation sont satisfaisantes mais bien sûr sont dépendantes de la qualité de la reconnaissance.L’absence de bouton d'insertion (retour ou blanc, ...) est à noter. Le câble est de bonne longueur mais n'est pas tout à fait standard. Attention à ne pas le perdre.L'installation du logiciel est un peu laborieuse sur un vieil ordinateur.

Je recommande ce produit. Au début il y a un petit temps d'adaptation pour trouver la bonne vitesse pour scanner mais le scan est rapide et bien réalisé. C'est un réel gain de temps!Seul bémol, pour par exemple les apostrophes qu'il a du mal à détecter. Ou si par exemple vous avez stabiloter un texte après il n'arrive plus à scanner.Il est petit, léger et donc se transporte facilement dans la pochette de l'ordinateur portable.J'ai eu un souci avec mon code d'activation et le service client a résolu le problème et m'a répondu rapidement.Je conseille vraiment cet achat!

Je suis très satisfaite par ce produit. J'ai attendu de l'utiliser sur une certaine période avant d'écrire un commentaire. La prise en main est facile. Certes, à la toute première tentative, on ne sait pas vraiment comment le tenir, à quelle vitesse passer sur les mots et donc, le scanner commet pas mal d'erreurs de lecture. Mais il y a un petit schéma sur les documents qui accompagnent le produit qui explique très bien comment le tenir : en réalité il faut le tenir comme on tiendrait un stylo, d'une manière très naturelle, légèrement penché et passer assez rapidement sur les mots en un mouvement fluide (il n'est pas du tout nécessaire de ralentir pour l'aider à scanner). En fait, on l'utilise exactement comme un surligneur avec lequel on passerait sur les lignes, une fois qu'on a compris cette prise en main, le produit ne commet quasiment plus aucune erreur de reconnaissance de mots (sauf pour les notes de bas de page, lorsque les caractères sont petits ou bien en italique, ou encore lorsqu'il y a des suites de symboles, c'est-à-dire des chiffres et autres marques alternés (par ex. : "t. 1,1998...") ; dans ces cas-là il commet des erreurs et il faut alors faire attention à aller un peu plus lentement et à bien centrer sur la ligne). En dehors des petits caractères et suite de symboles étranges, il commet aussi des erreurs lorsque les lignes ont déjà été soulignées au stylo, surtout si la ligne est proche des mots, ce qui n'arrive pas très souvent...Pour conclure le produit m'a réellement permis d'accélérer mon travail. J'en suis très satisfaite !

Vergangene Woche habe ich diesen Stift gekauft und nutze ihn bereits seit 3 Tagen und bin begeistert! Allen Zweiflern muss ich den Wind aus den Segeln nehmen! Nach dem Softwaredownload und dem Anstecken, ging es sofort los. Alles hat einwandfrei funktioniert. Selbstverständlich musste ich mich zuerst an die Geschwindigkeit und dem korrekten Einlesen (Überfliegen der Zeilen) gewöhnen. Nach einer halben Stunde Übungszeit klappte alles einwandfrei. Sowohl die linke als auch rechte Buchhälfte lassen sich super scannen! Das Zeichenformat spielt ebenfalls keine Rolle (dies bedeutet, dass Omas große Textzeilen (Arial 14) genauso gut scannbar sind, wie Arial 6 oder niedriger). Auch die sofortige Übersetzung von Texten klappt super. Alles im Allen mag ich diesen Pen nicht mehr missen und möchte jedem Zweifler positiv zusprechen :-)Als Student, der kurz vor seiner BA steht, kann ich jedem nur zusprechen, Zeit und Nerven damit zu sparen.Einen kleinen Abstrich muss ich jedoch machen. Der Pen hat Schwierigkeiten damit, farblich markierte Textstellen - via dunklen Textmarker - zu erkennen. Also entweder einen hellen Textmarker verwenden oder zukünftig am Rand die Notiz nutzen.Deshalb bekommt der Stift einen kleinen Abzug, vergebe dennoch 5 Sterne!
