great prequel!
This was a wonderful prequel! It was hard to read knowing how things were in the future and wanted them to make different decisions. But, they didn’t know the future held for them, just like we don’t know our futures and God’s plans for us.

The Baxters.... the beginning
While I have read all the Baxter series books and know these characters inside and out, I was looking forward to THE BAXTERS A PREQUEL to learn more of this beloved family’s backstory.Within the pages of this book you find that the Baxters are a family that disagrees, hold secrets and even some that lose their faith, but they are a family that loves no matter the situation.Kari’s wedding day is a day to be celebrated, but Elizabeth Baxter is not only worried about the stormy weather forecast, but the storm brewing within her house and the unsettled feeling that something is going to happen on this day with the way her children have been behaving. Will the celebration of their sister’s wedding ease the tension?Kari is ready to marry Tim Jacobs, the man she loves. But, is he the one? From childhood and till recently the love of her life has always been Ryan Taylor. So much doubt and reminiscing of their past and then a surprise visit from Ryan has her wondering if she should go through with the wedding. Will she?Middle daughter Ashley is struggling with her past involving a tragic accident that left her brother Luke’s friend dead and then returning from Paris, pregnant and alone to raise her son. Luke basically despises her existence. Ashley is angry with God. Can the only person, Landon Blake, the love of her life, help her see her worth? Help her find her way back to him, but more importantly to God?The beloved Baxter family will face many trials in THE BAXTERS A PREQUEL, but will John and Elizabeth Baxter be able to bring their family back to the way it has always been? A family that gathers around the dinner table and are there for each other. Or will the arguing, doubts and the questioning of their faith tear the family further a part?Karen Kingsbury once again has delivered a beautifully written story. If this is your first book from Karen about the Baxters, I encourage you to start reading the series with Book One REDEMPTION and enjoy the journey.I highly recommend this book. I always say open your heart and your mind, there is always a message within the pages of a Karen Kingsbury book.

Strong family ties and faith
The story was engaging and it's a great introduction to the series. It's the first Karen Kingsbury book I've read. I liked it; however, I personally felt at times the writing was a little too sweet and unrealistic. Nonetheless, I appreciated the themes of devotion to God and family, believing the best in others, and expectant redemption/ restoration.

so so good!
I love this book so much! No Christian is perfect, just forgiven and serving a perfect God that sees us and loves us in spite of our faults! This book truly brings that truth home! As always, Karen Kingsbury is a master storyteller that makes you feel like you truly know the Baxter family! Keep writing, Karen!!! The world needs more of your words!❤️

What a glorious Homecoming reading The Bacters: A Prequel, has been.!
What a journey into the foundation of the Baxter heritage is The Baxters: A Prequel. Not only getting reacquainted with each of them, but on a deeply personal basis as well, the thought processes that lead to their individual stories over the years. My wife and I were privileged to attend the first Baxter homecoming in Bloomington some years ago. What a weekend! and this book brought everyone of those early memories flooding back, like a warm, loving embrace. Thank you KarenI’m so hoping the new TV series, The Baxter Family, by will be featured on the Great American Family network as one of it’s signature Christian examples of God’s Grace in programs, especially in times such as we are living today.Like a Little House on the Prairie, Karen has a wealth of material for not only a long-standing series about her special family but a wealth of fictional programming to keep GAF going strongly as a prime example of Christian based broadcasting for the future of America. May God continue to bless her and her family in the years ahead! Phil Calkins

Great read
I have read all the books so know what happened with Kari and also Ashley later on so was hoping for a little more on there life. But over all the book was a great read. Looking forward to another great book Karen. The only disappointing thing is not getting the extra chapter in the book buying from Amazon or the Christian book store but was able to copy it from the computer. As I said before we are unable to buy from Walmart here in Canada but loved the book my husband even took the time to read it.G E Macdonald
