I suppose it's just the nature of the thing because it's paper after all. My green smoothie sucks through just fine but after a while, the wetness causes the straw to break down. If I drink it fast before it gets too soggy, it's fine.

These are very sturdy straws that stay strong for a while which is amazing considering they are paper...I use them for my smoothies...AWESOME buy!
