Like a one-man studio, the legendary Stanley Kubrick (The Killing, The Shining) co-wrote, co-produced, shot, edited and directed his second feature, the dazzling film noir Killer’s Kiss. Down-and-out New York City boxer Davey Gordon (Jamie Smith) strikes up a romance with nightclub dancer Gloria Price (Irene Kane). Their budding relationship is violently interrupted by Gloria’s boss, Vincent Rapallo (Frank Silvera), who has eyes for his employee. When Vincent and his thugs abduct Gloria, Davey is forced to search for her among the most squalid corners of the city, with his enemy hiding in the shadows. Killer’s Kiss provides a fascinating look into the early work of a man who would soon become one of the world’s most important and influential filmmakers, and it’s a remarkable achievement in its own right: the boxing match may be the most vicious this side of Raging Bull, and the famed final battle remains an action tour-de-force.Special Features:-Brand New Dolby Vision HDR Master – From 4K Scan of the Original Camera Negative -NEW Audio Commentary by Film Historian Imogen Sara Smith -Theatrical Trailer -Optional English Subtitles

Kubrick classic
I hadn’t heard of this film; it was part of a three film boxed set. It’s short but punchy, literally. Shot in black and white with some great shots of 1940s Brooklyn, the story follows a boxer who’s at the end of his career. He meets a girl, falls in love and plans a new life. But things go wrong and he ends up being suspected of murder, wanted by the police and his world falls apart. As a piece of 40s film noir, it’s an interesting example. Fascinating to see how Kubrick started as a director and developed over the decades. There are some real early gems around and this is one of them. Enjoyed it.
