Alphonse Mucha (Art Colouring Book): Make Your Own Art Masterpiece (Colouring Books)

45 Art Nouveau designs derived from artwork by Alphonse Mucha – printed one side of the page
The media could not be loaded. This is one of a new series of “Make Your Own Art Masterpiece” coloring books from Flame Tree. In this book, the artwork of Alphonse Mucha is explored. Some of the line drawings are details rather than a full reproduction of the artwork. This allows the illustrator to reproduce much of the fine detail work of the piece. I have other coloring books which show full body reproductions, so I am really pleased to have this as something new and different. There are 45 line drawing designs to color. The designs were chosen by Daisy Seal and were illustrated by David Jones. While today, we accept Alphonse Mucha as one of the most notable Art Nouveau artists, he did not agree. There is a one page discussion about the artist, his influences, works and life, at the beginning of the book. The designs have a very nice level of detail but are not intricate and difficult to color. On the opposite facing page of each design, is the name of the work, when it was created and how it was published. There is a thumbnail of a small portion of the design with some color showing. The inside flaps at the front and back of the book have black and white line drawings which can be colored as well. The cover is quite smooth but will accept various forms of color medium. This is what I found in coloring in this book and testing my coloring medium on the paper45 Designs based on the artwork of artist Alphonse Mucha.Designs are printed on one side of the pagePaper is light ivory, heavy weight, slightly rough and is perforated.Sewn Binding. You can remove pages at the perforations if you wish but it will separate the designs from the describing thumbnails.Book fairly easy to lay flat in the open position. The designs do not merge into the binding area. The designs have framing lines at their outer edges so you don't have to color up to and over the edges.Alcohol based markers bleed through this paper.India ink pens can leave slight shadows of color on the back of the page.Water based markers and gel pens do not bleed through the paper.Coloring pencils worked well. Both oil and wax based pencils worked well for providing good pigment. Though the paper is slightly smooth, I was able to layer the same color for deeper tones, layer multiple colors and to blend easily using a pencil style blending stick. If you use a medium that bleeds through the paper, I suggest using a blotter page under your working page. I use card stock but heavy weight paper works well, too. This will keep ink from seeping through and marring the pages below.

Nice coloring book
If you like this style, this is a great coloring book. I liked most of the pictures in it, which is rare, and look forward to coloring them. I want to try some new techniques and styles and I think this book is perfect for that. The only issue I have is a photo of each picture by the artist is not included. If you want to do the same colors or at least see what the artist did, you have to look it up on your own.

Mucha’s coloring book is awesome!
I’m an artist and I love his drawings and I can use his color guide or my own choices. Doing this book helps me control my hand and experiment with colors. I can also use shading and highlights if I wish , that the other book doesn’t allow. It’s just a fill in the blanks book. The Daily Seal is my favorite! I wish he had another book like that! I’ll probably do the book for a third time. I can really see how much I’ve progressed from the first one to the one I’m doing now. I recommend this book for everyone that likes to do art! It will bring out the artist in you ! Laurie

It was close to what I needed.
Excellent resource. Only wish some of the images were full, rather than blowups/magnifications of only a portion of the original images.

Michael coloring book
I wanted this book for inspiration in my artwork and it is lovely. Many of the famous designs are there of Micha portraits, all outlines. Thanks.

I have loved Mucha since I was a little girl
I have loved Mucha since I was a little girl. My mother had a huge wall print that hung in our kitchen in the '70's. This is a beautiful book. The pages are thick, one sided and perforated for easy removal should you wish to frame your masterpiece! I was a little intimidated by the intricacy at first, but I just took it slow and things worked beautifully! I am using Prismacolor pencils and they have been perfect. I recommend having a good sharpener as some of the spaces are very small.

Not as beautiful as Mucha's art but almost
Got this for my furlough weeks. Takes almost a whole day to color one page. One down-side is the pages are 2-sides so if you press down hard on your pencils (like I do) the back pacge will transfer a little to the one behind it.

Beautiful but……
This is without doubt a beautiful book but, lots of the images have virtually no details. Also it is printed on cream paper so it’s really difficult to achieve a true skin tone. As seems to be the way at the moment the name of the picture is printed on the back of previous one. The pages are perforated but be really careful when you try to detach it.Now to the good stuff. As I said this book is beautiful. If, like me, you work with markers, then either detach the pages or put the obligatory sheet of card underneath because it would be a shame for any seepage of ink to spoil the next picture. There is a reference palette of 25 colours to use as a reference point and it’s easy to look the original images online if you want to stay close to that or you could (like me) occasionally throw caution to the winds and totally go your own way. I have to admit to colouring a couple of them 70s style with oranges, turquoise’s and the blue eyeshadow which we all wore back then and some (who should know better - me included) still do. I digress.Had I known everything that I know now about this book would I have bought it? Probably not. But I’m really glad I did.

welcome to the art of Alphonse Mucha
After going to an Alphonse Mucha exhibition west of Glasgow I was keen to try my hand at an Art Colouring book and when I had ordered this bookI was awe struck as the images are the same as the exhibition which I had seen. Because of the images in the book are very fine detailed they take time to do. What helped me with the detail were the colour examples as these are the same as the Mucha posters which are beneficial if you are an art noveau fan this book ticked all the boxes I was very impressed with the book. It is very challenging and each image can be removed and can be put into a frame so I can have an Alphonse Mucha piece of art work in my home.

Exceptional Colouring book enables fans of Alphonse Mucha to create their own artwork!
It is worth reading the very comprehensive review written by Hazel Smithies here as it is thorough, but I also wanted to add my appreciation of a really beautiful adult colouring book. Quality paper, more card weight really, with so many stunning designs for you to colour and create your own interpretation or to copy from original design sources. Each design has a perforated edge to ensure detachment, should you wish to frame an individual artwork. An exceptional design source providing many hours of colouring pleasure and relaxation.

Hands down the best colouring book. Ever.
This had everything I would want in a colouring book, wonderful details, patterns, quality paper, perforated. Seriously tempted to buy it for a second time I loved it that much and cannot find anything else as good.
