Really vivid.. rather downbeat but that’s how it can be for a lot of women.. perhaps the collection as a whole needed a bit more varietyI enjoyed reading it and thought it was excellent

Absolutely shocking in the best way possible. Louise has such a sharp eye for detail and the truth. An authentic portrayal of Irishness.

The characters are portrayed with great sensitivity and tenderness and the stories unroll seamlessly.Perfectly made.

This is one of the best short story collections I've read in a long time, and I read a lot of collections. Each story felt like an emotional punch, but landing in a different spot each time. I experienced so many emotions reading these stories, all were compelling and absorbing, covering many themes but always relatable. A complex array of characters live in these stories, not always likeable but somehow Kennedy makes you care about all of them.A brilliant debut from Louise Kennedy.

Louise, if you read these reviews I must tell you (as you were previously a chef) how yummy these stories are.I am from Donegal so already have a feel for the places you describe.Each story is so fulfilling in it's own right, I cannot move on to the next one without allowing time to digest properly.To me you are on a par with Kevin Barry and I cannot wait for your next book.Congratulations on your new career. You really do brew up a storm!
