The second best Ip man movie not starring Donnie yen
Overall there aren't that many decent once past the ones I already mentioned but this is still a pretty fine film in fact I will go as far as to say that I prefer this over Ip Man 4. There's not much for me to say on the matter but this is still a fairly decent movie in itself.

I like period films
I like period films. Don't expect plenty of martial arts action from this film. This is not like Donnie Yen's "Ip Man" franchise films. Still enjoyable to me.

Ip Man
Received item on time, as promised. Enjoyed this version, a little different from the other version but still enjoyed it. Attempted to be a more factual biography! Nonetheless, still enjoyed the movie.

good movie, great anthony wong
donnie yen fans will most likely dislike this movie alot. people that did enjoy wong kar wais grandmaster will probably enjoy this one.the sets look more like a TV show. they are really "clean" all the time.the video quality has a digital TV soap look as well.but overall its a good movie ! with some decent fighting and a good story.anthony wong is a amzing actor !this movie got a lot of bad reviews from people that did expect another donnie yen IP man. i feel sorry for them, this one is for the more mature audience..

acts great in the movie
The leading actor, Wong Chow Sung, acts great in the movie. His slow walking and talking (except the fights) of Old Ip Man is right to the point. Tbe scenes of old Hong kong (the cars, the building, the street side food stalls) show exactly what Hong Kong looked like in those old days. This movie is different from Ip Man 1 to 3, by Donnie Yen. Ip Man friends must see and own this movie. Another Ip Man movie........A legend is born.Ip Man is another movie to watch as well. These added up total 5 Ip Man movies in the market. I have them all in my collection.

Dubbed in dialogue that is not nearly as good in acting or in fight scenes as IP Man 1, 2, and 3.
The movie is ok to me but is a failure to extend IP Man 1,2, and 3. The fight scenes are not nearly as good and the acting is rather bad because it is filmed in Chinese dialogue with English dialogue dubbed in. I have some kung fu movies with dubbed in dialogue like some with Bruce Lee and they are much easier to follow and understand. In this movie the subtitles do not follow the spoken dubbed in dialogue and often goes into impromptu near equivalent translations that only match the subtitles in meaning. Often the spoken dialogue comes in reverse order form the way it is printed in the subtitles.I am very disappointed in the movie as it is not that good either. The story line is more like old stereotypical Chinese movie drama. The morals of good over evil lasts forever in traditional fashion of other films.I like to see the Kung Fu action movies and this movie is not that good for fight scenes. Most of the action is in slow motion like most are so it is slow enough for the western eye to follow the action. Also, some of the Wing Chun is good watching but the good scenes are too few and too long in between.I appreciate the movie being made to honor IP man but it did not honor him nearly as well as the Donnie Yen version of IP man because his grace dignity and good looks are hard to match. The dialogue is too hard to follow because the lips movement are not in sync with the dubbed in English spoken dialogue.

Another Chapter in Ip Man's life
If you're looking for a lot of fighting - there's a bit of it, but this film is mostly about Ip Man's students in Hong Kong. The finale is the main fight between Ip Man and his adversary, but this film concentrates on the philosophies and ethics behing Wong Chun. "Grand Master" was the same way - mostly strategy and method, and not much fighting, but it's a good thing, because why have a movie about long contests all the time. These two films showcase the integrity and insights into Ip Man.
