How To Draw Crazy Cars & Mad Monsters Like a Pro (Motorbooks Studio) Paperback – Illustrated, January 15, 2007

Great book! Just smashed full of wonderfully inspiring artwork, from cover to cover!I'm on my third copy now. A buddy of mine asked if he could "liberate" my first copy, as soon as he saw it. This was not long after I finally quit borrowing the one the local library had, over and over; and bought myself a copy. After giving my first copy to that buddy, I picked up a second book for myself... which worked fine for a while. Then I got a wild hair and had the book's spine removed, so I could turn many of the book's pages into a huge collection of mini-posters. They're happily decorating my workshop's walls now. So then I had to pick up a third copy, to replace those first two ... !?!Basically, if the cover art is to your liking, you'll love what's inside! (But be careful ... fun art like this can be addicting!)

As much as Ed Roth, Ed Newton (who did a lot of art for Ed Roth's projects), might be the alpha-center of what a lot of artrodders consider the most profound period of automotive art, ever. Still today, the lowbrow art culture borrows heavily from the designs of Ed Newton/Roth from 40+ years ago.From a strictly clinical standpoint as a how-to book, you will get out of it what you want. But to me, the real beauty of this book is Ed Newton's remembrances, insights and anecdotal stories. They will inspire you to pic up the closest ball-point pen and scrap of paper and draw some rats in old GTO's or T-bucket Roadsters ! The inspirational aspect of this book was immeasurable to me. Ed's sketches and T-Shirt art from the late 60's and early 70's brought back some very fond memories of sitting in math class in 1972 and drawing twisted Roadrunners and Mustangs instead of paying attention, or wondering how many lawns I need to cut to get the "Mopar Madman" sweatshirt I saw in the back of Car Craft magazine !! He also gives many props to other great caricature artists like Dave Deal. I would call this book a "Must Have" for auto-art fans and historians as well as appreciators of old and new Rat Culture.

I have several of Thom's books and they all are great fun from which to work. Although beginners like me have a great deal of work to do to learn to do these well, it's well worth the time and effort (at least for me!).

Lots of good stuff in this book! Lots of info on how to draw cars. Very little on the monsters

I bought this book for my 17 yr old son who will be attending art college soon. He (and myself) loved this book. Not only is it full of amazing artwork but it also has a lot of interesting text about artists that draw like Ed Roth. Both of us have enjoyed the work of Ed Roth and his style of cartooning. I have been teaching my son this type of cartooning for years, I wish I had found this book sooner. I found it very enjoyable to read and it taught me a few things along the way. Anyone wanting to try this type of artwork will find this book very helpful and interesting to read, I highly recommond this book.

This book nails down some very good insight on drawing these cartoons of wild and crazy cars. I have drawn these since I was a kid, but this book shows how artists have produced their versions of this art. It has reshaped how I approach drawing my toons and given me some new challenges to use in drawing them.

Excelente libro que te hace recordar tu juventud, con el tema de los dibujos de Crazy Cars and Mad Monsters. Yo no lo compre por el tema de aprender como dibujar ya que eso no se me da muy bien, lo compré por los dibujos que podía tener y creo que no me equivoque. Es posible que compre otro para hacer un regalo.

Libro muy interesante,con claras ilustraciones de como realizar diseños teniendo en cuenta perspectivas,sombras,y proceso de creacion de este estilo de dibujos.
