Poor flavor, texture, and appearance
I'm not a picky eater when it comes to foil pouches of fish. I primarily use them as part of my meals when backpacking. When I'm hungry and tired in the mountains, I'm not expecting gourmet, just something palatable and nourishing.I've tried pouches ranging from cheap mass produced pink salmon varieties purchased at a chain supermarkets to higher-end smoked salmon purchased from specialty vendors. This brand is by far the worst I've tried. I'll break it down for you.Texture: I'm not expecting whole tender fillets in a pouch. But this was mealy, stringy, and felt like it had been blended into a mush.Appearance: Pale and watery. Looked more like crushed tuna from a can than wild Pacific salmon.Flavor and aroma: It has a briny, overly salty flavor with a pungent fishy aroma. I tasted very little other than salt coupled with the overpowering smell.I hate wasting food and will normally finish a meal even if I don't like it. But this? I had to stop after a couple bites.

Nice taste, texture of canned tuna
This product would be excellent tossed with noodles and/or salad, or baked in casserole. So far I've used it in salmon tacos and also added it to artichoke dip on crackers. Both times the dish was excellent. It would also be good with scrambled eggs... anything in which you would want and pre-flaked consistency to your salmon. Not too salty, not too oily, feels very nourishing, yum.I point out the consistency because I was hoping this would be more of a trail-side snack/ finger-food kind of thing based on the tags reviewers had given it. It is not jerky. It definitely needs to be eaten with a utensil. If you had no utensil, you could eat it with chips/crackers if you had a bowl in which to dip it, or a tortilla and you can pour it onto the tortilla. It's very good on both. But I would only eat it with my fingers if I was starving and desperate, because it is not finger-food consistency. So you know, prepare to have a vector for this food. Lolz. Maybe not good for day hikes, but great for camp sites. Also great in the pantry for surprise guests.P.S. _ I have only opened one pack out of the four packs so far, but if that is representative - not one single bone or any kind of skin/gristle or foreign object was found and you can see pieces of salmon fat which are so good and healthy for you to have in the unadulterated state... Not too much to where it is overwhelming, just enough like the good cuts of meat kind of thing. It feels/tastes/looks like a good value for the convenient nourishment it offers and I was happy to serve it and eat it.

Far inferior to their other kind
This isn't terrible, but it's nowhere near as good as SeaBear's other variety: SeaBear Ready-To-Eat Smoked Sockeye Salmon, 3.5-Ounce Pouches (Pack of 3) But that smoked kind has been unavailable for nearly 2 months; I guess they're discontinuing it, which is how it always seems to go with the good stuff. This plain kind is watery and a very light pink/orange color, and only has 4g of fat. The smoked kind is deep red, with thick red fatty juice, and 14g of fat. Of course the fat is where most of the flavor is, and most of the health benefits too (EPA and DHA omega-3 fatty acids).Taste-wise it's not even close. The plain kind is firm and a bit dry, like canned tuna. The smoked kind is tender and amazing. Such a shame.

It tastes rather more like salt than salmon
It is difficult to review the taste of the salmon because of the excessive amount of salt. It tastes rather more like salt than salmon. The texture is not so great either. It comes out of the pouch in tiny shredded pieces. Also, the seller is expending too much energy sending e-mails in the hopes of eliciting a 5 star review of her product. Sorry but it's a 3.

Good protein for backbacking meals
Great protein you're able to add to freeze dried meals. Adding the smoked Salmon packet to mac n cheese with hot sauce made a good dinner meal on the trail. Not salty like other processed fish and the smokey flavor did not over whelm the palette. Good to combine with other meals or alone right out of the pack. Pricey but worth the quality on the trail.

Delicious individually packed salmon
Delicious salmon. Packaged in individual portions so it is easy to pack up for lunch. Nothing added other than a slight amount of salt. Does not have a salty taste. This is my favorite ready to eat salmon. Much better flavor than anything I have found in groceries. Delivery was prompt.
