This drive is fantastic! If you have an SSD as your boot drive, the slow speeds on this drive will not bother you. If you use it for archiving, backup purposes, or even media purposes (like a plex server) it will be a great performer! Make sure to check that you see "0 hours used" in seatools to make sure your seller didn't sell you a used drive. Firmware doesn't lie! This drive is relatively quiet. It can't be heard above the white noise the air purifier in my office provides. One more note. If you are trying to read and write at the same time, you will not have great performance. This is exactly why this should never be used as a boot drive!

DOA. Checked against 2 different computers and two different sets of power/sata cables each -- nada. No sense that it spins at all. Makes me wonder if this is a legit drive because in 30 years of computing, it is extremely rare to get a DOA drive, at least, in my experience. It has maybe happened once. I'm sending this one back but not sure what to do -- I want this capacity, I no longer trust Seagate. WD doesn't seem to have anything else in this class with this spin, transfer and memory rates. Never been a Toshiba fan even if they make something this size. Not sure what I'm going to do but dead is dead so back it goes.

These drives are very fast, and run quite cool (almost the same heat/temperature profile as some of the older WD Red drives). They've been running beautifully for the past few months on my unRaid server, having gone through heavy stress tests for the first 1-2 weeks.

So far, so good. Very fast for mechanical drives and fairly quiet. They don't seem to run as hot as regular drives either. So let's just hope the lifespan is good as well.

PSA: Do not buy from third party sellers if you want to keep the mfrs. warranty period. Drive died less than 3 months after warranty expired....

Excellent drive.Posting this comment to save someone some grief. If you have a intellsense psu that reduces power consumption when not needed like my seasonic psu.You have to use a molex to sata cable to get to over ride HGST own power intellsense. Otherwise the drive will not mount.

Theses 10 TB HDD are brand new, less then a month old. But all four will all be over 95% full. by the end of the month. So far with 25T of the 40Tcompleted, zero errors. Obviously, I have no long term report, but they are enterprise quality.

PSA: Do not buy from amazon any Drives if you want to keep the mfrs. warranty period. Drive died less than 2 years warranty was not honored by HGST WD as it was bought from amazon reseller
