This was a fun science experiment to do with my son.You do have to boil water, and you have to stir for about 5 minutes for each hedgehog. My son said he thought his arm was going to fall off from all of the stirring. I assured him his arm would not fall off.The instructions implied the hedgehog would be fully grown after a two days, but I left ours in for a couple additional days. The green hedgehog grew faster than the blue hedgehog. So I left the blue hedgehog in an additional day longer than the green one. I probably could have left them in the fluid even longer, but we were too excited and wanted to see what they look like after 4 days.The crystals are fragile, The hedgehogs can't really be handled because when you touch the crystals they do break off.You will need gloves to take the hedgehogs out of the fluid, the fluid will stain your hands. Gloves are not included.Overall were very pleased with this experiment!

These were a lot of fun, easy to complete. Follow the directions and it should be easy enough. The only thing I wasn’t expecting is that it would take 4 days to get the crystals to grow to touch the water/solution before we could drain it and and really check out the little hedgehogs. I thought maybe it would be 2 days, it’s alright though and my kids loved this! Obviously it is different from the picture but still enjoyed this!

This kit was so exciting to receive. It’s sad that the containers were both severely cracked and all of the liquid spilled out of them. The hedgehogs never developed any crystals. The colored solution separated itself from the crystals. I had white crystal formations outside the containers but they looked nothing like the picture. They were clusters of tiny ones. I’m a science teacher. Don’t recommend.

Fascinating procedure and cute critters!!

Far more crystals on the bottom of the cup than on the hog. Dye gets on everything and stains the hog's face so it has a dorky mustache. Cup eventually cracked on the bottom, so dye and crystal dust leaked out everywhere. I cleaned my guy up as best as I could and even pulled out his little crystal bed from the bottom of the cup but his face still looks dirty from the dye and I am sad. My fiance likes him though, so I guess he stays.

Why did you pick this product vs others?:This is a beautiful gift for children. My 6 year old nephew love it.

Best crystal growing kit we have bought because it comes with a container you can display. All the other kits, the growing containers were just plastic cups and you cannot remove the crystals to keep or display without them breaking. This kit was so exciting for my science loving son so he could put his hedgehog crystals on his shelf. Highly recommend. Grew fast and looks just like the display photo.
