A pretty wooden instrument
this is a small Tai marimba. It has strings that tie to hold the keys like a "suspension bridge" It is solid wood and looks attractive and is economically priced. the keys are high pitched and can be played with the wood mallet or by gently gliding the mallet over the keys, which is fun. Because of the strings and mallet, it is better to assist and supervise children using it but it can be used by children. Also attractive on a shelf displayed. A gift for a family with someone going through chemo.

READ THE REVIEWS!!
NOT a Musical Instrument! If I had read the reviews I'd have seen this most important mark against this item. The description says it is 8 tones, but that is not necessarily true. I have 8 keys on mine, 3 of them are the same note, and one is just about a 1/4 tone off from those 3. In addtion, those notes are not a scale. They are mostly chromatic half steps. Don't get me wrong, I'd love it if all 8 notes were half steps apart, but they are not. There was no consideration put into the tones. As for the look of the product, it is fits the bill. The teak wood is pretty and on the whole the product looks cool, which made it all the more disappointing that the tones are terrible. The product is not well built, even considering the poor instrumentation, it's just built ok. The string that holds the keys together is poorly knotted. The keys are not uniformly separated. I'm not even certain that the keys CAN be uniformly separated and still hang high enough to not touch the base. If all you want is an eye piece for a Polynesian theme, this xylophone is fine. But if you want an instrument, go elsewhere.

nice
Small but beautiful . Carved wood details were great, theres a adjustable string the holds the keys which is good to have that option. Sweet music.

Great Product
My son loves to collect unique instruments. He will love this for his birthday. It's so neat looking and the sound quality isn't too bad.

It’s a decoration. Not real instrument
It is a decoration. NOT a real Thai or Khmer xylophone (roneat ek). The keys are just slabs of wood. They are not tuned. I gave 2 stars only because it is a decoration as described. It does not deserve a 5 because it does not have real keys or notes.

Like the look and will still be a fun piece to have on shelf
Unfortunately, the wood music pieces are not musical. Only three have a sound. The rest just " clunk".. And the three that make a Idea sound are not in scale order. In other words, idea great. However, in reality, not a musical piece.
