Filled with interesting and useful information
There is nothing I love more than setting a nice table for friends to come over and use candles as centerpieces. I also love having them all over the house for their beautiful scents. This inspired me to buy this book to learn some more about what I love.I found it very interesting to discover the different types of wax, and that paraffin is cheaper than soy or beeswax. It will help me pay more attention to the candles I buy in the future. I also enjoyed learning about the different types of herbs that can go into candles and their effects. I knew that chamomile has calming and sedative properties, but I had no idea that cinnamon gives a deeper and longer-lasting scent or that mint has a sweet smell that also works great to freshen up a home.I also enjoyed the section on wicks and had fun realizing that they also play an important role in how a candle is finished and how long it will burn. I was amazed to read about fiberglass wicks that last longer or that wicks can be braided to mix zinc, cotton, and paper to ensure a flame that burns brighter and more evenly.I found this book very enjoyable and easy to read. As to whether I will be brave enough to dabble in candle-making, I’m not sure yet, I may have to reread some chapters before I make up my mind.

Helped my friends candle business flourish
My stepsister recently just launched her own candle making business and so I figured let me buy her this book so that she can know some more decorating and customizing candle making tips than what she already knows. The book is very detailed and really helped her understand all the materials that she would need to buy in order to be able to fully customize the color, scent and design of her candles. I actually learned that candles can be made from beeswax, gel, soy, rapeseed, coconut, palm, parafin and essential oils and that dependent on the material that is used it will affect the way the candle burns, lights and smells throughout someone's house. I especially loved the chapter talking about different herbs and spices that can be used to enhance the aroma of the candle. I will definitely be using thyme, chamomile, cinnamon, mint and rosemary in my customized candle as they are all some of my favorite spices. Overall a great quick easy read but, very informative as well.

A candle is a prime product which every household keep no matter how modern is the culture, society you are living in. I was fortunate share this book among my friends in Sri Lanka who experiencing constant power cuts, the book really helped them a lot. This book has a wide array of making candles considering your requirement and if you are smart enough you could try even new things as you wish. I really appreciate the way that they discuss about the history of the candle and wax which gives us a simple idea about wax. I highly recommend this particular book since the book well descriptive, the author has provided the information regarding to safety which is very important in any sought of work, about your choices which gives you the freedom in candle making, and if you interesting in doing a business it provides you few marketing tips as well. its worth of buying this book who is interested in making candle.

lacking in hard information (and pictures)
I have been making candles for a little while, thanks to the book "candle making basics" by sandy allison (highly recommended by me for beginners). I want to move to a higher level, like making better wick choices. The elizabeth rothschild book had such high reviews that I was hopeful it would help.Quite frankly, it created more questions that answers, and overall, less impressive that the allison book. First obvious shortcoming: total lack of DIY pictures.Regarding my wick problem, elizabeth had a nice paragraph describing my "tunneling" problem and . . . ? no explanation of the fix. in another wick chapter she says that "a common misconception is that one size fits all wick" but says nothing about why/how. worse, later she said "if the candle is 4in in diameter . . wick should be 51-32-18. experiment with 44-24-18 and 60-44-18". why chose these wicks (do the numbers mean something and what?) and where to get these (I have never seen wicks with these numbers). And little omissions, like she goes to the bother of including weight and volume u.s./metric conversion charts, yet not a simple c/f conversion chart. i had no problem but my mom needed me to write the numbers in her book for her.i was not interested in the project candles so i can not speak to those, but again, i notices no pictures of the project results. In conclusion, i am still looking for wick answers, and as an aside, recommend the the book "candle making basics" by sandy allison.

A good book for beginners
So, I have never really been into making candles, but have always bought candles.... That was until a friend of mine started to make them and convinced me that it was simple. What I liked about this book was the breakdown of everything, how the different types of waxes have different results when making candles. A lot of the stuff I feel like was common sense, like the double boiler, or using mitts to protect yourself, but still it was good to read about. The only things that were confusing is that the measurements are in UK units so I had to kinda figure that out by myself.Overall, if you are just starting to get into candles making and want an easy guide, this book is perfect.
