Great for beginners! Really love the product
I’m new to watercoloing, but I’m also a very picky person. So when I started looking for for a watercolor set, I did a ton of looking around for the right set. Finally decided to buy this set. And I wasn’t distracted! The case is pretty sturdy and really nice! The colors are are really nice. Some of the watercolor “cakes” are deceptive, the active color is different. But if you make a swatch of all the colors it’s fine. I’m really satisfied with my purchase.

This is a beautiful set. I bought them because I didn't have to mix a lot of colors if I didn't want to. When I did some color swatches, I could see that I've chosen well.I have three Escoda travel brushes that fit right into the area where the brush goes, and then my Ohto Tashe mechanical pencil fits right in with those perfectly. (I gave the water brushes to a friend because I don't care for wate rbrushes) that much. The little dish and the sponge fit right in that middle well, too, and there's even room left for an eraser in the area between the two larger pans of color. The palette box has two areas to mix paint. One of them with six mixing wells, the other with three larger sells. All that equipment and the generous mixing wells (9 in all) make it totally and generously complete for taking along on an outing.

The paints are very disappointing.
I bought this based on the reviews about the efficiency and the set up of the palette. The palette would be suitable to buy half pans and put them in this palette, it can hold more and has nice area to mix the colors and it cleans up well. However, the paints are not well pigmented, and are very chalky. I am new to watercolor but I have some other brands such as Prima Marketing, and Koi and they are by far more pigmented and transparent. It is hard to achieve a consistency of color because of the lower pigmentation. This would be a fun set for kids, but if the company upgraded the paints, I am sure they could sell far more.I wrote to the company because the colors did not look the same, especially the pink, asking if the wrong color could have been inserted. However when wet down and put on the mixing area it comes out to be a hot pink as you can see. Also the pans are not full, these little blocks of water color they inserted into the pans do not fill them, they are much smaller, and I also found that disappointing. The company NEVER responded about either thing.Being on Amazon, it is so important to keep in touch with your customer base. I cannot understand any company not responding after 4 days.I am going to keep it for the palette, and for the the nice set up, the brushes are decent, I love the little sponge and small ceramic dish. But I would have loved a better set of paints, you can pay the same money for much better brands and get your moneys worth. I hope the company will address these issues, because as cute as this palette is, imagine if it had great watercolor paints too. It would sell many more units and people would be far happier.

The best way to make a 60 color custom palette tray from tubes!!!
I bought this for the tray itself, as Jerry Q sets paints are ideal for kids or beginners. However, their trays are so well built and organized, that they are still WAY more affordable than most empty palettes. I believe that the price is reasonable for the palette alone, and no one should expect these paints to work like professional grade paints at this price point.I took a photo of the colors before I removed them, after I emptied them out, and once I filled them with my Mission Gold tube paints. I was able to make a 60 color custom set for myself. I left 4 full pan slots (2 are fixed in place, 2 are removeable) and the rest were half pans. Because each built in stall space has a pan you can remove sitting inside of it, I was able to have 12 leftover half pans for use in a separate altoids tin for travel. I use double sided tape to secure the loose pans in place.

Only good for the pallete
These are very chalky. Would not reccomend even for beginners. I bought these for the pallete, and the pallete is pretty decent.

Good paint at a good price
Perfect for both beginners and intermediate artists. The colors are rich and blend easy. The two brushes that come with it are good for travel but I didn't love them. The whole pallet itself is big enough to fit about two or three other paint brushes inside it for travel. Over all, I've extremely please with my purchase and would recommend.

Kinda strange mixing palette layout
I only received this set yesterday so I have not had a chance to try the paint but I do have a comment on the case. This is s nice sturdy case but IMHO it has one design flaw. There are 2 lids that can be used for mixing areas. The problem with them is they are both hinged on the same side. So when you open the case one kid opens on top of the other. How am I supposed to deal with water and wet paint. It would be much better had the lids been hinged on opposite sides like most sets.

Perfect for travels
I love the pallet. I've taken out the paint that came with it, and put in my favorite paints instead. Because this is a wonderful travel pallet. It holds everything I need to have with me, except from water.
