Story of Being Human From an Ape's Perspective
I absolutely LOVE this trilogy. With the influx of Marvel and DC superhero movies, of which I do enjoy myself, this reboot trilogy deserves to be right up on the list of the original Star Wars, and the Lord of the Rings trilogies. This is a reboot trilogy done right. This version of Caesar the Ape (Andy Serkis), has become one of my favorite characters in recent years. You understand immediately what Caesar is thinking and feeling through his eyes, a feat that Serkis has excelled beautifully throughout his career.Caesar is, for the most part, a silent character; but you empathize with him.The human characters are pretty strong too. Will Rodman (James Franco), at first reluctantly, takes Caesar in until he can find a proper owner/sanctuary for exotic pets. Rodman as a scientist uses his knowledge and training to study Caesar's rapid intelligence from the ALZ-112, a drug that was designed to be a cure for Alzheimer's. Rodman's father, Charles (John Lithgow), suffers from Alzheimer's; until Will gives him the drug, and he progressively gets better. However, that changes once the drug wears off.Charles gets worse with his Alzheimer's, while on the other hand, Caesar and his apes get smarter. This first film has wonderful nods to the original Planet of the Apes movie. The "112" in ALZ-112, is the running time for the original movie, characters are named after either the humans/apes from the original franchise, or people from the production team; even the production design of the ape sanctuary is reminiscent of the first film. This film explores themes of: keeping exotic animals as pets, animal abuse, animal testing in science laboratories, and what it means to be human from an ape's perspective. The former themes are not too on-the-nose, or in-your-face, you pick up on it as you watch the film.I highly recommend watching this amazing film trilogy.

Great Movie - Watch it
I like Dystopian Fantasy and this is a great one to watch. No Spoilers in this review, but suffice it to say that Human Pride is the reason for the ape's refusal to be caged and exploited. I think the acting was superb, as was the storyline. Tom Felton's character was a bit too cliche for my liking, but overall it was a great story. Want to spend quality time in front of the TV? Rent or Buy this movie, and get some popcorn while you are at it.

One of the best movies ever made.
I'm one of the people that never cared for the Planet of the Apes group of films. I've watched a couple of them, and they didn't do it for me. I accidentally watched this on HBO when it was on and couldn't believe what I had watched! This movie is incredible. The storyline, acting and special effects are right on. At times, it gets very dark and sad, and can bring on tears. For all you people like me that passes on the Planet of the Apes movies, don't pass on this one. I can guarantee you will love it.

SOO GOOD !
I LOVED this version. I am a watcher of the original series I grew up with and then some other remakes I liked too because they were still based on the basic things that the originals were.I found this one to be different and so I was skeptical that I would not like it that well- however, I LOVED IT! James Franco was amazing, the apes were the very best and I can't say enough about how fun it was to see this. I wanted to watch it before the new one was in theaters so I finally got around to it and I am so glad I did. The price was great, the quality good, etc. A+++

An instant classic. Masterpiece. One of this year's best!
The first thought in mind after watching this was "that's it? I remember seeing parts in the trailer I didn't see in the movie. What gives? And then also thinking this movie seemed incomplete, short, and as good as it was just lacking something." Until I found out it's only the first of a trilogy. I was like "oh well then, that explains it. If this is the first of a trilogy I understand why it left me wanting more. But for the prequel to the rest of the movies THIS MOVIE ROCKED SOME HARDCORE APE BANANAS! I am so impressed and just love this movie. And am glad I bought it. For anyone wondering if it's anygood. OMG it most definitely is awesome, but only if you know that it's the first of many more (at least 2). Didn't really see anything bad. James franco was awesome but sometimes it seems like he could use some coffee or more sleep? Anyway I loved it. Merry Christmas and Godbless. Praise Jesus~Shaun's movie review

Better than Expected
Better than expected. The viewer's sympathy is supposed to be primarily with the apes, but some humans are worth consideration, too. Think of this as a simian version of a zombie-apocalypse movie, in which human scientific hubris is again the downfall of our race. A well-scripted story, with excellent acting by the principals and compelling mo-cap work by Andy Serkis, who is the Number One go-to guy for all Gollums, King Kongs, and Caesars. What are we gonna do when Serkis is too old to be that physical?

Trilogy of the Planet of the Apes (2011-2017)
One word: WOW! Oh My, words cannot describe how amazing these movies are! The Planet of the Apes Rebooted Trilogy stands as one of the greatest movie trilogies of all time. All 3 movies are perfect. I can't speak for the box set as its not released yet but as for the films:RISE of the Planet of the Apes - A brilliant, clever re-invention of the Apes franchise, the plot is amazing, the characters are all well done and it doesn't stray from focusing on Caesar, and the end is EPIC!DAWN of the Planet of the Apes - An even more impressive continuation after RISE. The plot revolving the human characters is basic, but you have great drama and conflict, when the finale hits its enthralling. There are some brilliant emotional moments also.WAR For the Planet of the Apes - A Fantastic conclusion to Caesar's story. In the words of Woody Harrelson's Colonel, "So emotional!" Haha. In all seriousness its a superb movie with so many emotional moments. its not as action packed as the title would suggest but don't let that throw you cause there is some action. Its a great character piece. I love the callbacks to the original film of 1968. Its dark, brutal and emotionally satisfying and it has a masterful music score. All 3 films are visually stunning and some of the most dramatic movies of the 21st century, other filmmakers should take note from Rupert Wyatt and Matt Reeves, these are masterpieces. Highly recommended not to be missed and these 3 films top the other 6 Apes movies, yes even the original 1968 movie. All 3 I would score a 10/10 not to be missed! If you haven't seen these films you are missing out!

Astounding work of pure excellence.
I had seen the 60s original and one of the lesser follow ups. But then deliberately missed everything else due to the ongoing poor sequels.Noticing the most recent triple box set on blu ray staring Andy Serkis, I thought I'd give it a go.I was wowed by its realism, Andy's performance and that of all others in the building blocks and execution of an all out brilliant series of scripts and productions.Clearly most of the film presentation was in post production, but the over all set up and fantastically thought through story caught on camera is nothing short of astounding.Highly moving, beautifully crafted, outstandingly told story, from the perspective of lead character, Caeser.Production: 5⭐Directing: 5⭐Acting: 5⭐SPXF: 5⭐Best triple series of films I have ever seen along with Lord of the Rings. And definitely an amazingly brilliant set of prequals that lead up to the original 60s movie.

With no doubt in my mind, a perfect trilogy
This trilogy may be the finest in recent years. Engrossingly complex characters, impeccable visual effects and the stories that span these three films make this package a true gem in any collection. All the talent behind every aspect of this movie have really revelled in the art of filmmaking; and this package offers the cohesive viewing of each movie incredibly entertaining. The hours of bonus features are also very enlightening and a wonder for all the fans. If, like me, you’re scrolling through the reviews wondering if this is the collection you’re looking for, you found it.

The beginning of an incredible trilogy!
This is the beginning of a trilogy that holds up well, and the story is beautiful. I'm not a fan of James Franco as an actor, he's dull and very irritating to watch, but thankfully he's only in this first one and not given a huge amount of screen time to take away from the rest of a great cast. Andy Serkis is just a masterpiece in any performance he does, so this is a brilliant movie and I needed it in BluRay as I only had the DVD years ago. It now is up there with Dawn and War now in my BluRay collection.

Caesar's story
A new attempt at rebooting/reimagining/remaking/calling it what you will the Planet of the Apes franchise. So forget the originals and the 2001 version - as well you might in the case of the latter - because this is a whole new take on things, having no tie in with those films whatsoever.James Franco plays Will Rodman, a scientist trying to find a cure for Alzheimer's. Not least so he can help his afflicted father [John Lithgow]. When work on chimps with a new drug yields unexpected results he is left with a baby chimp to care for. Who is eventually named Caesar. Caesar is very smart. A bond between humans and apes forms. But when Caesar gets to see the worst humanity can offer, and when the drug trials lead to more unexpected developments, the future of two species might be changed forever.Caesar is brought to life via actor Andy Serkis in a motion capture suit and cgi, a la Gollum in the Lord of the Rings movies. The end result is just as good. He is a character you can't help but sympathise with and root for. It's very easy to forget at times that he's not a real creature.Human wise Will Rodman has a decent amount of depth to him and James Franco acts the character well. Frieda Pinto takes the somewhat thankless role of his life interest and does catch the attention regardless of her character not being quite as deep as she could. And John Lithgow does tug at the heartstrings when portraying a man who simply can't remember any more. The rest are cold hearted and ruthless or ignorant as required, but all are played well. The film moves at a decent pace throughout. This is a 12 certificate film, thanks to some moments of violence and angry apes that might not be suitable for younger viewers. It all builds to a very satisfying last act which begins with a great punch the air moment. And has a few more during what follows. Both a decent action movie when that kicks in, and a solid drama about the bond between two indiviuals, this is excellent movie making and an excellent way to start a franchise. Not least because although it's relatively self contained it does at the same time set a few things up to follow. The first of them in a pretty clever way. The second you will find out more about at the start of the end credits, so keep watching those. There are two short scenes which are done with subtitles. There's no way to switch those off. But they are necessary. You'll see why. There is also one great homage to the original.Forget the 2001 version. This is an attempt at franchise rebooting that wholeheartedly succeeds. Which is why the sequel will be along shortly. And why I look forward to it.The dvd has the following language and subtitle options:Languages: English Spanish German Italian.Subtitles: English Spanish Danish Finnish German Swedish Italian Norwegian. There are no extras at all.It begins with one trailer that you can skip via the next button on the remote. And one that you can't get past like that, unless you use fast forward.
