Up to date, detailed guide with useful summaries
Recommended, as someone who's visited Bangkok a dozen times in the last 20 years. The city has changed a lot—such as new airport and BTS / Metro expansions—so it's worth a bang up to date guide.Whether you're looking for a fast itinerary, tips on where to stay, or to discover the city's must-sees, has useful and up-to-date maps, helpful recommendations and practical advice. The format is useful—handy listings organised by Bangkok area. It works. The book is small—pocket sized. From experience, it's a better format for taking on a trip. For me—as travel minimalist—larger guides (Rough Guides & Lonely Planet) are best for detailed research beforehand. I can take pics of the pages.Everything here is pretty useful—A great starting point to orient yourself in the city. Just detailed enough, and you can Google for more. The maps are excellent, some overlap between the book and extremely handy pull out map.

Dated look but up to date information
Having previously been primarily a Lonely Planet fan, the DK Eyewitness books they have been publishing in the last few years have started to win me over. This Bangkok guide is one of their small format 'Top 10' guides which focus on smaller places and shorter trips that unfortunately however hasn't been updated to the new style. This 'Top 10' style means the book here is very much pocket size and likely to be something you can take out and about with you. The book is divided up primarily into a series of "Top 10s" which cover a huge range of different things from popular culture to best restaurants. The layout is fine for planning and a handy map makes things easier, plus dividing the city into areas. The style and layout is still unfortunately the old one which means while the information contained within may be up to date the overall format does continue to feel a bit dated. This is a bit of a shame as the long style book has been updated for the Thai capital.Despite this if you're looking to get away to Bangkok this is a pretty good companion to help you plan and enjoy the holiday if not on the most modern style.

Slim but packed
The impression here is of a city packed with traditional buildings and floating markets. It’s a thin book so it won’r be fully detailed. Passing visit or preplanning.
