The red side goes into the right IEM. I'm not sure what you mean by upside down, but I can tell you that the ear tip on the IEM should be facing down away from the cable.

Are these any different audio-wise than the original black-color Aria's? Better or worse?

These are tuned differently. There's a bit less base and a bit more focus on the high end. Better or worse is subjective - if you like a bit more high end you should get these.
