Just getting around to reading it now, before I gave it away, it turns out it is far from that. Author Makow is an English PhD, board-game designer, and crank-pot conspiracy theorist who gets married to a girl 25 years younger than him only to discover she has no interest in him. After moving back to North America, she spends all her time online meeting other men, throws violent tantrums whenever she doesn't get her way, and reports him to the police for abuse whenever he tries to stand up to her. Eventually he tricks her into returning to the Phillipines without a return ticket, and they divorce. Whew!Some but not all of the criticisms of one-, two-, and three-star reviewers are justified. Makow is obviously very immature, and he admits as much. He is also extremely gullible, and it should have been obvious to him that this girl was not really interested in him. However, he is not a predator, and many of his criticisms of western women are standard fare among American men today.A few specific criticisms rebutted:Makow did not go the Phillipines looking for young girls; rather, he tried to make contact with a number of women in the Phillipines, aged 20 to 40, and this was the one who responded to him; additionally, she initially lied about her age, saying she was three years older than she was.Makow did not go the to the Phillipines looking for a "slave"; in fact, he does all the cooking and housework after they return to Canada. He also does all the girl's homework when she goes to trade-school to get a license as a nurse's aide.Makow did not have a complex; as the number of negative reviewers on Amazon who disparage him by calling him short, fat, bald, old, and non-virile attest, the issue of a man's "dominance" comes from female selection, not male fantasy. The author's desire to be loved and treated the same as a tall, younger man with a full head of hair isn't unnatural or reprehensible, even if it is unrealistic.Makow did not ignore Phillipine cultural norms; in several instances he admits to making faux pas due to ignorance of Phillipine custom, but his apology and expectation of understanding is not unreasonable.Again, the author is obviously immature and gullible, and he suffered the consequences. Do you really need to read the story? Will it enrich your life? No and no. Neverthe less his experience in the Philipines provides for us an in-sight into the working of the Philipino mind where the impetus to get involved with a white male be it from the Uk or America could be influenced mainly by money to help the family to live and the family to feed. I think the obvious point is that the female from the Philipines does not know her own mind when they are aged between 18 to say 26..AFter that I think a bit more mature thought can come into the equation..IT is sad that the authors experience ended in such a calamity for which i sypathise having had similar experiences..but not as dramatic...I think this a read for any male who is thinking of linking up with a Romance/partnership with a Philipino girl. But be aware that the strength of that partnership could be dependant on how deep is your pocket.IF the Authors experience is anything to go by.
