## Overview

The RTL-SDR Blog Broadcast AM Reject High Pass Filter is a precision RF filter designed to block the broadcast AM band (500 kHz - 1.7 MHz) with over 50 dB attenuation, featuring a sharp 3 dB roll-off at 2.6 MHz. Ideal for SDR users, it reduces overpowering AM signals to enhance reception quality, connects easily via SMA Female connectors, and is optimized for use with V3 dongles and direct sampling modes.

## Description

Includes 1x RTL-SDR Blog Broadcast AM Reject Filter Designed to block the broadcast AM band between 500 kHz - 1.7 MHz with over 50 dB of attenuation. The 3 dB roll-off point is between 2.5 - 2.6 MHz. Works great with the direct sampling mode on our V3 dongles. This is a high pass filter and not a notch, so VLF will not work. Note, for RX use only. Note: Uses SMA Female connectors.

Review: Blocks those High Power AM stations swamping my SDR - I have a 5K AM station station close by that swamps my SDR. This little device took care of that. Knocked the signal way down and cutoff most of the other AM stations. Small, Compact, easy to install and seems to be well built. I'm happy with the results on my SDR.
Review: Perfect for Software Definable Radios - For any ham or shortwave listener experimenting with Software Definable Radios (SDR), this little item is a must. Strong broadcast band signals can make a sensitive SDR essentially useless. This little filter significantly attenuates these broadcasts and enables the SDR to achieve its full dynamic range over the rest of the bands. As pointed out by the seller, this unit will attenuate the 160 meter ham band, but its -3dB cutoff of 2.6 MHz allows for good performance on 80 meters and up. Hard to beat the price! Added a network analyzer evaluation of the unit (see figure). Insertion loss ~ 0.15 dB, -3dB @ 2.7 MHz and -40dB @ 1.98 MHz. Ultimate out of band loss is on the order of 45 to 55 dB.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Can this work with ham it up plus or would it i need it for ham it up plus? i want to pick up ulf and elf signals without am overloading things.**
A: No. This is a high pass filter, which cuts signal levels by approximately 30db below about 2 MHz- including elf/ulf signals below 300 khz.
You want a low-pass filter with a cutoff frequency below 500 khz.

**Q: I just got this today and it does nothing for me:-( Is it directional? I have tried it both ways, with absolutly no difference at all:-(**
A: If you're not having overload problems from a nearby AM transmitter, you won't notice any difference. It made all the difference in the world on mine, it was overloading so badly I couldn't use 80m or below. I don't think it matters which way you put it inline. If you have other problems, it won't help, it only works for AM band overload.

**Q: Is this a series or parallel trap circuit?**
A: Looks like a series trap.

**Q: Will this help with images from a.m. bcast I'm getting elsewhere, ie. 10-11 metres?**
A: It should, it says high pass so it should cut off just below the 80m band. I have several local AM stations that were coming in on 80m and 40m, making 40m noisy and 80m unusable. This filter fixed both problems, it was night and day. If you're using a random wire antenna without a counterpoise you may still have some problems.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ It works, but not 100% of the time
*by T***R on May 30, 2025*

After having used this for a couple years now, this does work. It does let some through at times, but I believe it is due to close proximity. However, if I don't use this as well as the FM bandstop, it makes SWL almost impossible at times. I'll put these on, and the interference I get stops.
