Basic Code Reader with a Multimeter
If you're looking for a scanner that will tell you that the various systems are set, so you can pass your state's inspection, this reader is for you. It is easy to use and quickly read the system status. If you need one to give you the codes for the ABS system, this is _not_ the reader for you.The multimeter is handy, but again, doesn't offset the lack of resetting or getting SRS/ABS/etc. codes.

Nice tool
As far as OBDII scanning is concerned, this tool is great. It does do all 10 modes of OBD2 (as long as the vehicle supports it). I've always found Autel scan tools to look and feel pretty solid, and this one is no exception. The included accessories, like the test leads and carrying case, are nicely made as well. The interface is pretty the same as other Autel scan tools: It is easy to navigate but its slow, partly because one must navigate through at least one unnecessary/redundant prompt page before accessing desired information. Also, the interface lacks some necessary user-controls, such as the graphing functions which while great are also seriously handicapped by continuous autoscaling that can not be turned off or controlled in any way (this makes spotting trends or abnormal sensor data very difficult). The multimeter functionality works as it should. It even gives you a simple oscilloscope/waveform display when performing voltage and current measurements and also displays frequency and duty cycle information on the same page. Unfortunately the utility of this is limited by the narrow measurement ranges of the tool. The voltage measurements are limited to +-30 V, and the only form of resistance checking is a "continuity" test which only displays resistance values under 50 Ohms. In my opinion, I would like to see a measurement on par with at least your typical cheap $10 DMM.

So far Autel 539 is a good scanner, and for sure I will pick one in the nearly future.
Before I bought this Autel 539, I got the Innova 3040d. It was a little bit disappointed because the interface of I/M readiness was not easy to see; moreover, it operates slow and hard to navigation in my opinion. The Autel was very well package; I mean it is very impressive and high quality from the package to the scanner. Unfortunately, I cannot upload the picture because of my laziness. My main concerns when I bought this Autel was the I/M readiness for state emission as I am living in California, and the version of the Autel. The I/M readiness is very easy to look as the picture of the product. As I was searching, there are two versions of the Autel 539. However, when I look on the picture of the product, it doesn't show the version and the package, so I decide to choose Amazon.com seller. At least if any thing happens, I can return it, and Amazzon.com didn't let me down. I got the newest version. In addition, the cable is long enough and firmly. The user manual is very detail. I can't not happier!

Bad setup instructions for a why bother unit
No customer support and locked out at the update screen of Autels wizard. Trash all around (original review)(Updated to 2 stars from 1 star)Helped myself to a forums page and figured out how to update the tool, the directions given with the tool are terrible and lack solid instructions, telling someone to download an update packet is not instructions, you have to tell them where and how to find it. Even after the wizard downloaded updating the tool was not automatic. I'll also note that my specific model is not even on the list of models to update in the wizard I found on a forums page which I was supposed to use it was a difference of being hyphenated with a -b I think. But still it's an oversight that again will cause problems during setup. I know older/not tech savvy people will have a hard time setting this up.Anyway once the tool was updated I was able to troubleshoot the problem with my mini but it doesn't help diagnose the problem if that makes sense. What it diagnosed was only that it had a misfire in cylinder 3. Not much relevant data past that (ie a stuck valve or no spark or lack of fuel or really anything else). You're able to retest after changing spark plugs or coil packs and can eliminate some of the guess work for a misfire but you can do that with a much cheaper and easier to use unit. The rest of the info from the autel is mostly useless unless you are a mechanic in which please buy a better scanner than this. And if you're not a mechanic you'll get the same info from the free scanners at any auto parts store so don't waste your money.
