These dimensions are the same as the half gallon ziploc all purpose marinade bags - are they the same thing (72 bags for $10.99, also less with s&s)?

They're not the same thing. The marinade bags are made of slightly thinner plastic and haw little divots to (I assume) make the marinade work better as a marinade. The freezer bags are more robust, have a pleat in the bottom and help prevent freezer burn.

what is the size of bags?

The flattened size of the bag from zipper to bottom is 6" and from side to side it is 10-1/2". The bottom expands to each side approx. 3-1/2' overall.

Are there 36 boxes of 144 count bags? I am confused by the specifications.

Why is the gallon size so much cheaper?

It's more common so they make more of it which drives the prices down.
