I love this thing ...
I love this thing. I was VERY impressed at the weight and sturdy construction of this spinner. I use this kind of device on almost everything; my Jeep, my tractor, my boat, everything with a steering wheel. I've had some pretty cheesy spinners that cost a lot more than this did and were not half as good.It fits the oblong cross section of a "Destroyer wheel" perfectly. It is made to fasten over on a wheel spoke which gives an unequivocal positive control of the wheel. In boats you'll often have one hand on the throttle and one hand on the wheel, this device allows you total control of the wheel using only one hand and you never need to let go of the wheel.I have a 13 inch wheel on my boat and this device gives me full control of the wheel at all times. Whether cruising, trolling or running WOT the wheel is always in complete control with only one hand. It is HEAVY for such a device being made of machined and polished stainless steel. It's not hollow. it is a monolithic block of stainless steel. The attachment system is well engineered and well thought out. When it's tightened up securely it's not going anywhere. Unlike some of the spinners I've had in the past, I didn't have to fight with this to get it installed and it went on the wheel very, very easily. It's almost like it's a custom made part to go on my wheel. It even comes with a nylon lock-nut, the kind of metal nut with threads and a nylon insert crimped in to keep it from backing out on its own. It's little touches like that which tell you someone put some effort and thought into this product. It's a bit smaller than I thought it would be but that's less of a minus and more of a plus. The compact size keeps it from being an issue on my center console where room is at a premium. It easily clears my throttle quadrant with enough room to spare that there's no chance of it hanging up on the throttle or my throttle hand as the wheel moves through its full range of motion. It's easy to grip and control with the web between thumb and index finger or by wrapping my fingers around and over the top of the ball. The little wrench/spanner that comes with it is NOT for installing and tightening everything up. It's to hold one nut while you turn the other one with a real wrench or ratchet socket. Use real tools to install this, don't attempt to put it on your wheel using only the included tool. If you're salty enough to be putting something like this on your helm you should already be able to figure that out.At just under $12 the price was excellent too, and one of the things that helped me decide to order this. There were/are other spinners that look exactly like this for nearly twice the price here on Amazon, anywhere from $18 to $21. It looks to me like they're the same thing, probably made in the same Chinese factory.I've bought a LOT of stuff on Amazon and I would be hard pressed to think of anything I've gotten that I'm more satisfied and happy with than this spinner. This is that good, it's actually made better than the wheel it's mounted on.Now ... the only thing that remains to be seen is how this will hold up to aggressive wheel manipulation, salt/brackish/fresh water, the elements and time. If over time my opinion changes I'll come back and add to this review. In the meanwhile if you don't see an edit this review stands as it is.

Great suicide knob for the matching type steering wheels.
Bought this for our old pontoon boat. I'm guessing the steering wheel is made of nylon or hard rubber. It's 13.5 inches in diameter but it's not round in cross section so the oval type mounting bracket matched it perfectly. The steering ball is very sturdy but spun well after the nut was tightened. Very smooth and comfortable in my hand. Some reviewers thought it was too small but I like the size.As far as installing it, no problems at all. You will need an open end 13 mm or 1/2 inch wrench and the special tool that comes with the ball.Overall, it was excellent. At $13.99, very worth it.I will caution you that it probably will not work at all on a car steering wheel or any steering wheel too large in girth or round in cross section. It's perfect for oval type steering wheels like the steel destroyer type.Very good product if you have the right wheel.

Perfect for my application
Lots of mixed reviews on this knob, but it ended up fitting near-perfect for me. My boats’ wheel has a oval cross section that measures 1” vertically and 3/4” horizontally. The bracket for the knob fit well loosely, but upon tightening the nut and drawing the bracket closed, the hinged “teeth” between the upper and lower bracket separated to where they were just barely overlapping. So I removed it and used channel lock pliers to bend the lower bracket slightly closed to achieve the fit shown in the pictures. Simple, easy mod that provided a perfect fit. The bracket allows the knob to be mounted either inside or outside the wheel diameter. My throttle control is close to the wheel, so an inside mounting configuration works great and gives me good clearance between one hand on the knob and the throttle. This knob is solid, all stainless and greatly improves maneuverability. Both of my boats now have a version of these knobs, I can’t imagine operating a boat without one!
